Not trying to overrun Hazy's tourney as we have had this idea in play since mid last season...Just didnt realize we were going to have to throw this out publicly this fast...but with his tourney, we want to give chance to everyone to possibly sign up for both or make the decision which to play in so both Hazy and the Committee can plan accordingly...

The IDEA: World Cup style, 64 teams, all Pro, Invite only

We are already starting to send out invites for the tourney. Our hope is to grab attention of the best 64 teams we possibly can. So far we have some big names very interested.

Once we name our top 64 and invite them...we will decide upon the top 8...those 8 teams will be the 8 Groups for the tourney. Each group will consist of 4 teams. Deciding what teams go in which group is still up in the air...it will either be random or we will actually go through and rank the teams and go from there. Not sure yet.

Round 1 will be like this...you will play everyone in your group, so 3 games...the best 2 records will advance to round 2 where the tourney will become single elimination. This is to ensure we have the best 32 in the field fighting it out. Tie Breakers for round 1 will be Total Points score followed by Points against.

What is to gain from this tourney?

1st place- $50 real money or Flex Point money if you will, ultimate respect from the GLB Rankings committee and probably GLB as a whole, and altho a longshot, we are trying to get a trophy out of Bort for World Champion.

2nd place- $30 real/flex money

3rd/4th place- $20 real/flex money

The best way to do the groups would be to have 4 different "pots". Top 16 teams in pot 1, 17-32 in pot 2 etc. Then randomly assign one team from each pot into each group. That will make sure that all groups are relatively balanced, but will still include some randomness.

We are mulling it over...good idea tho...right now we are just figuring out all the teams that will be present...and then the committee will really get to work on putting this together properly. Thanks gart.

of course the Beans would like to be in any tournament of good teams.

It seems the only friendlies we may be in next season are tournaments now.

im not sure the committee deems the Beans as a top 64 team these days...

8 at most per conference you mean right? Otherwise we are basically just saying that 8 teams from each region will represent...which will miss out on some great USA teams...

I think a better way than to put a maximum on the number of teams from a league (as I think USA Alpha alone could legitimately fill about 5-6 slots) would be to put a MINIMUM on how many teams should come from each region. Kind of like how the all-star games do it. That way each region would get representation, but would close to ensure that the best and most deserving 64 teams are in the tourney.

Each league will get at the very least 4 representatives as it is going right now...
