A team I GM has a good Oline, but get very few pancakes. I think if we could knock some people on their butts, we may improve our offense even more. Is it simply STR that determines pancakes? Is it ok to neglect blocking for STR? For example, 89 STR 55 BLK..... would that be OK for a guard or something?

str, str and more str. toss in a bit of blocking/agility and speed for good measure.
I'd say 55 BLK would be a bit low. I'd like to see that at 89 STR, 75BLK, although ideally...I'd say getting both STR to 100+ and BLK to 100+ across the OL will really allow you to lay down the cakes. Make sure to get ~70 agility and at least 50 speed for everyone as well.

I'm working on my 3rd RG, and for the first 2 I've pumped Str through the 4th soft-cap until it cost +5, with all equipment in Strength. I've targeted 100 Str (w/equipment), 60 Blocking, Confidence and Agility, 48 Speed, Vision and Stamina as a goal. Also, I do have points in the Run-blocking SA tree.
My first RG led the conference this season in pancakes and last season led a league.
Playing against a 3-4 will pump your stats, since it's easier to pancake LBs.
You'd be hard pressed to find plays where a NT got a sack against my RG.

They take defensive players totally out of a play. Good blocking can too, but there's always a chance they'll break the block.

They CAN take the defender out of the play, but they don't always. I've seen many plays where a defender is pancaked quickly, the blocker moves on, and then the defender gets up just in time to tackle the ball carrier. As such, I've tended to focus away from pancakes on my G, and he does fine.
Perhaps this is an artifact of lower speeds when runners are at low level, but I'm not sure.
All that said, I've been thinking of experimenting with a pancake focused G for my next player. But I'll probably decide that's too expensive of an SP cost.

The thing most people don't realize when they rip on the cakes is that it also causes a morale deduction to the defender. Morale and confidence are a huge part of GLB, but unseen, so people sometimes ignore it.

It matters if your team runs alot as well. If you are on a passing team, your pancakes will be much less than that of a running team.
As far as build....There is no perfect way. I say Strength is first, but keep blocking your second highest. Load up on the Cakes SA.

Not saying your wrong, but can you show me an example where it is likely pancakes caused low morale/confidence and had a noticeable effect in a game? And I mean in a non-blowout game.

The key to pancakes is to be where the play is going.
My TE, season 6, 193 pancakes - Lots of Strong-I OT plays, and other runs to the right.
Season 7, 74 pancakes - Less runs that direction, less runs overall, and much stronger competition.

Edit: Oh yeah, that was all done with 0 in the pancake SA, which is a useless crock of shit, IMO.
