Forum > Position Talk > CB Club > I've come to the conclusion "spin" for CB KR/PR's is worthless

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=961729 (note: I'm a KR/PR specialist)

I have AEQ with +2 in spin, but I'm tempted to sell it and add the 16 tokens to my "return specialist" AEQ. Spin never seems to trigger despite my 60+ agility, regardless who I'm playing. In fact, I got tackled by the punter on this play.... THE PUNTER!:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=335391&pbp_id=11027367

Half the time he's just running into the first blocker with no apparent spin attempt whatsoever:

Anyways, I just want people's opinion on "spin" custom equipment for CB return men. Should I stick with it or sell it? It sounds to me I'm better off raising return specialist as high as it can go.

I wouldn't have expected anything out of it. Specail Teams is a joke and I wouldn't expect anything to work on ST. Your return man is behaving just like every other return man in GLB regardless of what level or what equipment they are wearing. Higher leveled players than your's with more speed, agility, stamina, vision, and SA's do the same thing.

Build a cornerback to play defense. Unless Special Teams gets fixed there is no point in building your player specifically for specail teams. This means staying away from SA's that you want to improve your specail teams play. There is nothing wrong with a high speed high agility CB and your player should do well in the future because you brought two skills up beyond the second cap early. (I hope you are going to bring speed up to 68 natural when you boost next. Then it will be time to start working on other CB skills like jumping.)

Agreed
In addition, from what I've heard Return Specialist SA is nonworking, so that porbally isn't the best idea

Having spin at 2 is probably not going to trigger very often. Also, I'd think a bare minimum of 70 agility needed for spin to work and I think probably 80+ is needed. Returners need equal or more agility than speed. I'm not saying that they can be slow, agility and vision are very important as well.

TBH, I'm not sure if spin even works on special teams. Bort has confirmed that the Return Specialist does work, but people may be expecting too much out of it.

Spin of 3 from AE

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=564740

Agility is just over 80, after factoring in VA skills.

Carrying is over 50, Confidence is close to the softcap, vision is well above the softcap.

To my recollection, he has zero Spins on returns.

If someone wants to looks through his returns and prove me wrong, I would welcome it ...

3 points of Spin has not shown me much.

However, I HAVE seen spin fire for other folks on special teams...so it does appear to be possible

If anyone expects anything out of Return Specialist they are confused not so much because of the SA itself but because you have so little control of anything that happens on special teams. This SA doesn't work because special teams doesn't work.

But with the return specialist skill, at least it never has to "trigger" like spin does. Return specialist seems to be a guaranteed bonus, which is helluva lot better than crossing fingers for a spin move, even if that guaranteed bonus is minimal at best.

No, it does not. Based on the language in the description it might. But based on actual GLB special teams play IT DOESN'T WORK. Special teams play is a joke and if you do ANYTHING other than tweak the depth chart to make special teams better then you are wasting skill points and time.

they definitely need to overhual the ST's sim, watching 'em it seems like my WR(who is a returner) is either blind(50+ vision so id say not) or retarded, becuz he'll have a huge cutback open but continues to run on the straight line towards the defenders

I just don't understand why there would be no bonus on "return specialist." It shouldn't have been hard to incorporate this feature over GLB's 8 season tenure. I agree with special teams being broken, but I'm not convinced this ability simply doesn't work. It's an ability that's been with GLB since day one. It shouldn't be hard to fix, even if it is broken. Simply have a guaranteed bonus when the CB is running a KR/PR play. If Bort can do crazy things with VA's, like "streaky," then "Return Specialist" should be easy to incorporate.

Let me put it this way, is there any proof it DOES NOT work?

I think it works in that it increases the attributes it says it does, but that doesn't make you a better returner.

If that's the case, what attributes does it increase? Punting and kicking? =) It says it gives a bonus to "speed, agility, and tackle avoidance." That's about as specific as it can get and those attributes obviously do help in returning punts.

Anyways, there's no way Bort could "break" this ability, so if this ability truly doesn't work, then that means the ability is a huge lie, Bort is too lazy to fix it (even though it should be a simple fix), and punt returners since season 1 have been deceived by building their characters around an ability that does absolutely nothing. I know Bort isn't perfect, but if this ability truly doesn't work then he really dropped the ball on this one.
