I can see things like a 4'th quarter specific input for late lead, or 4'th down ~~~

but what other uses could you have in the defensive AI for quarter specific settings unless you scouted a team who always ran or passed in specific quarters?

End of 2nd quarter, could use a prevent in the last few seconds.

Also, if you are winning in the 4th, teams are more likely to pass. If they are winning, they are more likely to run.

I personally don't bother doing that, but you could if you really wanted to.

it's my first season as DC, so trying to soak in as much as possible.

what would a "prevent" defense be as an input for example? I have found so far that having specific defensive plays for specific formations works better than generic types of strategy for the most part.

thanks for the response.

Well...

Cover 3/4 from a 3-1 would kind of be a prevent type thing. It's usefulness, I don't really know. Theoretically it should stop players from breaking away for a TD, but allow short-medium stuff. If it actually does it or not, I don't know. I took it out of my AI because I really wasn't sure.

I tend to mix up certain fronts in certain quarters just to give OC'ers something different to think about

Tons of reasons...want to be risky and bring the blitz early in the game to lower the opposition's morale, your CBs have low stamina so you want to double cover the #1 WR in the second half, etc.

In my observation it works, you just don't want to leave it to the default settings to determine when its put in place...you can give up TDs a little early and with too little of a lead if you're not careful.

i like cover 3 quarter if im up by 8+ points with 2 mins to go, but i only run it until the red zone, then i shift back to a normal def. works pretty well to keep people in bounds and keep the clock running too, since it tends to give up the middle of the field more

sorry for my noobishness, but how would you go about double covering a WR in the second half?

I've had some mild success with cover 3 in the past few days...

One of the inputs in the defensive AI is the number of WRs on the field. You don't have to match WRs to CBs one-to-one. In other words, nothing is preventing you from putting 4 CBs on the field vs. 3WRs. And who says that extra CB has to go into coverage?
