What would you guys think about suggesting a World League? All the region-specific pro leagues would feed into a World league. I think that would be able to be done. And then we would have a true GLB king...or if its Monmouth, queen.

It's amazing that this hasn't been thought of before.

W have thought of this idea before, and I think it would work best if we could do the whole tourney sim in one day. In order to do that, we'd need to have some sort of future tactics scheduler. However, if it were done in one day, a lot of the cons go out the window.

End on day 40 contracts definitely throw a wrench into the works, though. Many team rosters explode on day 41, including champions.

Bort, would it be at all possible to have a seperate server at some point for things like this, and also for off-season friendlies? So your updates are not having to be put on hold or everying having to be done in one day?

Maybe some sort of roster freeze on Day 40, where current rosters are frozen onto this seperate server, and we can have tournaments or friendlies in the off-season to keep players active.
Hrm, I don't know if that would work, at least off the top of my head. Players and teams need to be consistent for a proper database structure, and we'd want the final data to go onto the live site.

Depending on the size of the tourney, it might be possible to run it all at the end of day 40 as well. There's 4 available hours before the end of the day.

So this means you are leaning towards the tourney rather than 16 team league?
We've been leaning that way ever since we came up with the champions league idea back in season 2 and everyone freaked out about it.

So people "freaked" about it in season 2. Is there anyone against it now?

I still wouldn't be a fan of it until a lot of major thought went into it. First, I'd assume you have to take exactly 4 from each League to start? And then just the champion every year?

What happens to the teams that get "demoted"? We will have teams from Africa going to the World Cup League, and then getting demoted to other leagues (such as the USA) where they still don't compete. If there were a way to keep guys in their original "countries" it would be ok, but then you would continually have the "lesser" conferences having no shot at the World Cup, so they shouldn't even be there.

Just my few thoughts, I believe these were the types of things that didn't get worked out before.

2 teams from every conference. Whichever of the two teams finishes worse gets demoted back to their native league, while the conference winner from that league takes their place.

Adds an interesting twist to the season. You have to finish ahead of your conference-mate and you can remain in the World League.

If teams gut or go CPU, then they get demoted and two teams come up.

There's really no easy way to do it. The only other option would be to have teams demote to their original leagues ( not necessarily the same conference), and if more than two teams are demoted into that league then they would have to demote down 3 teams, until a league was reached with a CPU team which could then just be demoted to the bottom. At each stage after that league they could follow the same demotion schedule.

So, if 4 USPro teams were demoted from the Champions league in season 14. Two would be placed in one conference and two in another, forcing each conference to demote 3 teams instead of two (unless there's a cpu team which could be moved to the bottom league), then it moves down to AAA who would also have to demote 3 teams unless a cpu team is found etc.

imo the best way to do a World/Champions League is....

-16 teams, not a full league i know, but i'd rather it just be all the top top teams playing each other, go big or go home. Plus if you get to a true Champions league i'd want all the teams in it to play each other in a season. Every team makes the playoffs, we just seed 1-16

-The 2 Conference winners of each pro league would start it out.

-Demotions would go to the first round losers, harsh for one loss but i think it makes it that much more interesting.

-If a team that won its first round game decides to go cpu, the team with the best record of the first round losers gets to stay.

-When you get demoted, you go to the pro league where you came from.

-In the event that a Pro league would have both of its teams it sent to Champions League sent back in demotion, that pro league would just demote an additional team. Usually there are more than 4 teams that deserve demotion anyways so not a big deal. I know that it carries the additional demotion down the line to other leagues, but that will promote more competitiveness anyways.

-Pro LEAGUE winners get promoted each year.

just a thought

there is no way to guarantee an equal number of teams go back to each league. And if 4 teams go back to 1 league, then you will have to demote more teams from that league then. It would kind of be a hassle.

Regardless, that isn't the main stumbling block. It's WEPL who thinks their league is better than everyone else's and they don't want to do a world league.

Hey, someone's gotta bring up the rear in a World League.

I'd be more in favor of a 16-team tournament using the championship finalists from each league. Sim the games on Day 41 (1st/2nd round) and Day 42 (semifinals and finals).

I like the idea of World Pro, gives you something to look forward to after Pro seasons. And even if a team from SA Pro was to be relegated to the USA pro, then they would have a different chance. Or be relegated down to AAA. Would suck to be them but usually the top teams in each would not get relegated down in any of the pro leagues.
