This may be a very poor question, but I am not sure what the difference is between a NT and DT. Can someone please explain what I should be looking for in each position and how their responsibilities differ?

Here are my two starting DTs and my DC runs a 4-3.

I'd say NT was focused on lots and lots of strength and run stuffer abilities. Meant to just be more of a pylon eating up blockers and plugging the middle. Not a glamorous position to be in.

The big difference is a DT usually has considerably less strength because they are putting all their EQ in agility. Other than that they are generally slightly weaker but faster and more agile than a NT in terms of natural stats (though not always). They don't really (or shouldn't) do the run suffer tree at all. One would argue they should just load up on glare and shed block for their SA.

NT = Occupy blockers, to allow 1v1 matchups for other lineman/Line backers.

DT = exploit 1 v1 matchup with agility/speed, to rush the QB.

big myth is that NT's should be all about strength. Frankly, the only difference should really be in their SA's.
