This formation is run out of 3-2 C2 and the extra CB is on the #1 WR and provides good support for pitches and those pesky WR screens.

I'd like to run a similar look out of a 4-2 (or 4-1) and keep a double team on WR#1. If I go to a 4-2C1 will the SS move up to cover the TE? I think he does. What if I go to a 4-1-6 C2, what happens then? I could blitz the SS to get the run support I want.

SS will cover the TE in a cover 0/1 always.

If you have 1 more CB on the field than you do WR, #1 WR will get doubled. You could also run a Cover 0 and the FS will swing over there.

what happens in 3-4 cov 0 if you blitz cb2? Will SS pick up WR2?

No, unfortunately he won't.

Take the number of WR's, add one, and that is how many CB's you need. Unless you play Cover 0, then you can have an equal number of WR's and CB's.

Unless you don't mind your LB's manning up on a WR.

So if I play cover 2 with 3 CB's against a 2 WR set, the 3rd CB will always double the #1 WR? I thought he might match up with the TE leaving the LB's to cover the RB's.

No, I've been experimenting with this some and unfortunately losing once or twice because of inadvertently screwing up the AI.

WR's - Will be covered by CB's and the FS.
TE's - Will be covered by the SS or LB's
HB's - Will only be covered by the LB's

I've yet to see a formation or play (although I may be wrong) that results in the FS or a CB on the TE or a HB. I've yet to see the SS play man coverage on anyone but the TE, although I haven't tried blitzing the FS so the SS may cover a WR if there aren't enough DB's otherwise. I haven't checked. The default for the SS is to cover the TE. If you go Cover 0 against a formation with a TE and you aren't blitzing anyone, the SS and LOLB will double-team the TE rather than sending the SS to double-team a WR.
