So, the Freedom Writer went undefeated for the second week in a row...This week should test that streak with 2 great games on tap...There are still 12 teams that could feasibly make the playoffs this season, and it's looking like the top 4 are pretty much set in the forms of Houston, Jax Beach, Lincoln, and Richmond (whodathunkit?)...Texas is making a push though, and could play spoiler...
Week 7: 8-0
Overall: 33-7
Let's get to the goodies:
Houston Armageddon (7-0) vs. Deimon Devil Bats (4-3)--So the Armageddon have survived their 2 big challenges this season by squeaking out an OT win vs. Lincoln and setting up quicksand for the Juggernauts...Deimon is one of those lower teams fighting to find a way to get themselves into the playoffs...There is no way that Armageddon is going to be averted until playoff time...Houston 130-Deimon 10
Torrington Wildcats (4-3) vs. State of Texas Domination (1-6)--Well, it looks like we can pretty much eliminate the Domination from the playoffs...They haven't lived up to their name for 3 seasons now, and it's sad to think of the killer that they once were...Speaking of Killers, they remind me of the song "When You Were Young", because before my 32nd birthday, they were a contender...Torrington ran into an up and comer in Texas Presidents last week and came up a bit short...There's no way that happens this week...Torrington 91-State of Texas 3
Baton Rouge Bayou Bengals (2-5) vs. Alamo City Souljahs (5-2)--So Alamo City in finally starting to look like they have the Spirit back...Just 2 seasons ago, they were saying "I coulda been a contender"...Now, they're living up to that...Baton Rouge is having a hard time figuring out when they'll be a contender again...The real test for Alamo City comes up in a couple weeks when they run up against Richmond to figure out who will be the 4 seed and who's gonna be #5...Alamo City 87-Baton Rouge 6
Delray Manatees (3-4) vs. Frostburg Bobcats (4-3)--One of the more intriguing matchups of the week...Both of these teams are bubble teams for the playoffs...However, as Woody Paige would say "You Gotta Look At The Schedule"...Delray is 3-4, and they have only faced 2 out of the current top 4 teams...On the flip side, Frostburg is 4-3 with all 3 of their losses coming against the current top 3...Not only that, but Delray almost lost to the Cavemen...Frostburg 71-Delray 13
Antarctica Cavemen (1-6) vs. Killian's Irish Red (3-4)--Killian's is one of the other bubble teams for the playoffs...While Antarctica did win a game and pressed Delray to the brink, they're about to go ice cold again...The only winnable game that they have left is against Texas Tech...Killian's seems to have found a hidden stash of their goods, along with a case of Guinness, because they've been acting drunker than Peter Griffin on his trip to Ireland...Luckily for them, it's a long plane ride to the South Pole...Killian's 56-Antarctica 14
The Toilet Bowl (Presented By Drano): Minnesota Paladins (0-7) vs. Texas Tech Big Red Spread (0-7)--First there was the Detroit Lions, now there's one of these two teams...I really can't decide on who to pick here...I'm just going to go with my gut...Texas Tech 56-Minnesota 52
The Not Quite Game of the Week: Texas Presidents (5-2) vs. Richmond (6-1)--Another game that could have some bearing on spots 4-6 in the playoffs...Texas started out sputtering a little bit, but their diesel engine is now making an eerie sound as they head into town after town...Since their losses to Delray and Deimon, they've gone into Ed Orgeron mode and put a full court press on recruites...Richmond is now a bona-fide championship contender...They're impressing me, along with a whole lot of other teams...This one is truly a coin flip...Richmond 61-Texas 45
GAME OF THE WEEK: Lincoln Freedom Warriors (6-1) vs. Jax Beach Juggernauts (6-1)--Wow...A mid-season classic that everyone in Da 7 will be watching...This is a $4-5 million game...The winner of this game most likely gets two home games, while the loser will likely only get one...The matchup could hardly be any closer then it is...Before last year, this game had always been decided by a TD or less...Last year, Jax Beach took advantage of a shallow Lincoln defense and won by 16...However, Lincoln's defense is no longer shallow...This is another game that I think will come down to turnovers...Most likely we're looking at OT or the final 3 minutes of regulation...Lincoln 42-Jax Beach 35 (OT)
