Sorry if this has been asked Ad nauseum but I'm having a really hard time covering the TE. Way too often he is wide open with not a defender near him.

I don't feel that I blitz the house a ton and way too often there will be triple coverage on the WR and nobody near the TE.

Are there any suggestions on getting better TE coverage?

I need a little bit more info to answer.

In what formations does the TE get open against you?

What D form do you run against the above formation?

It looks like he gets wide open when I blitz the LOLB. Is there anyway to ensure TE coverage when i blitz the LOLB?

Cover 1. It brings the SS up to him. The SS will double-cover with the LOLB if you do not blitz. This means one less defender for WR's, though. Cover 1 also offers great run support as its closer to the line of scrimmage.

If you are in Cover2 and blitz the LOLB, you will always leave the TE open.

Cover 1. Nice thanks.

Do you agree that cover 1 will cover the TE if I blitz the LOLB?

You got to call man coverage underneath.

Interesting. What exactly does "underneath" mean? Does that mean the LBs go man?

Yeah - if you set underneath to zone they only cover who comes into their bubble. Good against screens but not good if you have a tight end whos running deep.

Excellent. So just to clarify, the ideal suggestion to cover the TE when I blitz the LOLB is to go cover 1 with man underneath coverage?

Haven't read the quote pyramids...

But the SS and LOLB are pretty much the only ones that will cover the TE. If you blitz both of them, or blitz the LOLB while the SS is in cover 2, the TE will be wide open.

Also, avoid zones because they are trash.

Would you guys suggest selecting "man coverage underneath" with a cover 1 on each and every single package I use?
