All things said by the god of glb.

"defense gets first crack at the pass, followed by the receiver, followed by defense again if he misses/drops it."

"Defensive players have a swat/intercept radius too."

yes, I assumed that. let me clarify my question:

Radius implies a sort of circle within which a player has a reach.

If the ball is coming into my CB's swat/catch radius, but only touches the outskirts, am I less likely to swat/catch the ball than if it comes into the center of my radius.

"Yes, same as a WR is less likely to catch the farther it is from him."

Thank you, that's what I assumed. Just seems like all too often the CBs are in perfect position, but don't make the play. I was a little surprised to see that they get first crack at the roll. I guess it just may be the dots not matching up precisely with what's going on. I appreciate the input into the interworkings of the sim a little more and answering my specific questions.

Very surprised that they get the first roll, makes me think jumping is not as useful as I thought it was. After all it won't do anything to get the first roll, therefore all it really does is allow you to catch balls the defender already missed, correct?

"Their first roll is modified by the WR's jumping/etc, much like the WR's roll is modified by the CB's skills. Basically the WR gets an anti-swat roll."

"SA's like jumping catch give you a larger score when comparing rolls either against other players or just in general (like the "can I catch it" roll) in the various situations to which they apply."

Hey underdogs, this is good info. I guess, I'm slow in understanding how to utilize the info. Does this mean that CB's don't need a ton of jumping? Does this mean now that Long Reach is SUPER important for CB's as far as a VA skill? Does this mean that Dline guys DON"T need jump as it doesn't help swat more balls down? Just trying to understand.

I just put it in all defensive threads. I just assumed That everyone who had a lineman would have a different defensive player. I personally like defense better than offensive players right now.

no a corners jumping is one of the things weighted against the receivers abilities to see if the corner can swat the ball on the play. Jumping helps a lot.

Yes long reach is really important I would think. The way he worded it the Corner gets first crack at the chance to deflect it or catch it, then the receiver does. My impression would be the corner actually would have a chance to get two chances at a swat, before the receiver would even have a chance to roll his catch roll.

D-line guys need jumping to swat at the line. I don't know why you asked that.

Like I said I put it in all defensive forum in case anyone missed it.

bort also hinted, i think, that the Swat ball SA helps increase your swat ball radius. Its kind of self explanatory but not many people say its an important SA and it seems much more important now that we know that the CB gets the first chance for the ball
