This has been bothering me for a while. With the new TE1/TE2 slots and the defense's inability to matchup against them, why would a team ever want a true TE?

The ideal setup for every team is one TE built like a WR and one built like a OT (with a bit more speed). It's silly, unrealistic, and hurts every older player who actually built their TE to both catch and block.

Unrealistic in what way? Most NFL teams have blocking TEs and catching TEs.

It depends on your definition of a true TE.

Most teams at any level have structures similar to the current TE1/TE2 scheme where one TE is better at receiving while one is better at catching.

There are really few TE's that really excel at both.

For example, both Kellen Winslow Sr. and Jr. were better receivers than blockers, and based upon listening to them, they view themselves as more offensive threats than blocking machines.

Meanwhile, the TE's the old Chargers and today's Browns carry don't have the catching skills of either Winslow but are relied on for more blocking duties.

Really? The receiving TE still needs to be able to block, and the blocking TE to catch - otherwise the defense would know the playcall every time.

In GLB you'd want Randy Moss and Orlando Pace as your TEs rather than guys like Gonzalez or Witten.

GLB is unrealistic. That's one of the many problems of GLB. You can run the same play for reletively equal success the whole game. And how many 255-0 games have you seen IRL?

Do you by chance have a suggestion to fix the problem or are you just whining?

only possible suggestion is to remove TE1/2 capability

Remove the TE1/TE2 capability, or let the defense change their tactics based on which TE is in the game (as they would in real life).

Yes really. When was the last time you heard a good defensive player pay homage to the blocking skills of some of today's receiving first TE's in football? You don't because some block little better than putting a body in the way of the defender, while some of the blocking TE's make the blooper reel when they try and hold onto one of those "trick" goal line plays where they throw it to the blocking TE and he bobbles the thing.

there might be some defensive settings you could add like having certain players always cover certain offensive players in man coverage.

This is absurd and barely worth responding to, but yes, Jason Witten is a far better blocker than Randy Moss and Jim Kleinsasser is a better receiver than Orlando Pace.

just add additional input criteria to the defensive AI:

TE: TE1/TE2/Any/None
HB: ...

etc.

I'm not buying the as they would in real life bit either, unless the offense would have a mechanism to counter defensive player changes, like they do in real life when they get a mis-match (such as the no-huddle).
