Ok I built my WR for possession mostly since we have a solid running attack and a running back who likes to get outside sometimes...and because I wanted him to make the catch rather than worry about what he does after. He gets a lot of short balls passed to him and a lot of 1 on 1 coverage, but nearly everything gets deflected. He doesn't drop too much...maybe averages .5 drops a game or so.

Here is the build: Level 31
Strength:
33.94
Blocking:
9
Speed:
70.58
Tackling:
8
Agility:
55.11
Throwing:
8
Jumping:
42.5
Catching:
51.66
Stamina:
44.14
Carrying:
23.81
Vision:
42.77
Kicking:
9
Confidence:
31.57
Punting:
8

POSSESSION SA- 2 3 2 2 2
Speed SA- 2 2 2 1

And here are some examples from just last game of what i am talking about...their corners were fairly inferior in terms of levels. This happens constantly...

That was less than half of the game...

Catching of 51.66 is good but not great. Carrying of 23.81 is not good. It looks to me like you are catching the ball and getting hit right after the catch. That is recorded as a pass deflection. The cure is more catching and more carrying.

Oh yeah, and Rock Chalk Jayhawk!! I will attending KU next fall.

Yeah, train your carrying up asap. That will help with the plays where you get hit and drop the pass.

Sure Hands (VA) might help.

The deflections happened simply because your player was not able to get enough separation from the CB.

Get your catching to 68. A possession guy with soft capped catching complaining he can't catch is like a speedster with soft capped speed bitching that he can't get open.

I think every one of those defends is a case of poor carrying. Bort has said that carrying comes into play when the receiver makes the catch and then tries to tuck the ball away...if the WR gets hit in the moment from the catch to the tuck and drops the ball it is because of poor carrying and is listed as a deflection.

I see it all of the time on one of my WRs...

btw...I hate that QBs can no longer throw a good deep ball...

As the main possession build experimenter around here, the key things your lacking are 1) jumping, 2) agility, 3) catching, in that order.

As a possession build, you get the passes your way, but then the CB closes in, so your looking to create seperation either vertically, or by using agility to get inside the CB and in a position to catch the ball when they do close in.

Most CB now have jumping at at least 30, and more and more are heading towards softcap with it. If they're outjumping you, and outrunning you, your going to be completely smothered on a lot of plays. You really want jumping to softcap, and preferably beyond (getting it towards 2nd softcap here and making use of high jumper VA). This gives you a big boost on those plays where the CB is right on top of you in head to head matchups, and will also reduce the PDs you give up.

As far as agility goes, I like it real high, but 60 is a solid base for a more balanced higher speed possession build like your trying for, 67 would be even better but would take time. At 55, your in the realm of, or yet again behind most CB, allowing them to follow your cuts, and get underneath you on plays to get first swipe at the ball. Added bonus of high agility is the creative route running option, which keeps a slower WR a little more open once their agility is about 70+.

As far as catching goes, a lot of people are overrating it's effect on possession builds, it's useful, and should be closer to 60 than softcap, but the main weakness of possession builds is in remaining open enough, once the pass comes their way, to make receptions. Your obvious weakness from the gametape is securing the ball in head to heads, not the holding on to the ball in general.

You were at 3 receptions, and gave up 9 PDs in 11 targets last game, the QB is throwing to you plenty, so what you need is the close contact skills to stop those PDs.
