Has there been any discussion on the difference between a high-STR. QB set to medium passing style vs. a somewhat lower STR. QB set to bullet passing since consensus seems to be that high STR. increases the velocity of the passes?

from what I can tell passing style is the angle the ball is thrown. lofty has a really high angle, bullet is almost a straight line, medium is well medium.
From what I can tell, strength main job is the balls velocity. I really don't think strength has much of an effect on passing style.

Strength increases velocity, decreasing the time the ball is in the air.
Bullet style (lowering the throwing angle) shortens the path the ball takes, decreasing the time the ball is in the air
The first thing to note that decreased time aloft cuts both ways, meaning the receiver also has less time to spot the ball and get into position, not just the defender. A lower throwing angle also leave you more susceptible to deflections at the line.
The stronger arm QB has an advantage in that he is more flexible as a passer, you can't count on bullet style to throw a ball on a flat trajectory a long distance with low velocity thanks to low strength. But if you play in the right system of offense, that can be covered up to an extent and I guess some could argue you save skill points that would have gone into strength.
Personally I still prefer the quarterback with arm strength, you never know when you are going to have to take some shots deep.

Strength has a big impact on the distance a QB can throw the ball as well, no?

i dont think so
strength is just how long it takes the ball to reach the wr

Str has a lot to do with quality of the pass, how far it can go, how fast it can go, how accurate it will be when throwing it over longer distances. How well it will hold up a tight spiral over longer distances. A NUMBER OF THINGS.

This was asked when the passing styles came out and Bort basically said it didn't matter.

For long passes, yes. The longer a pass, the more angle you will naturally have to put on the ball to get it to the destination so bullet becomes less of a factor. He said that is started out with all QBs throwing something close to bullet passes up close the first couple of seasons. Then he noticed if he upped the angle passes are thrown at QB completion percentages usually went up somewhat, especially on passes to slower receivers on shorter routes, like TEs. The extra time the ball is in the air gives them more time to find the ball and get in position to catch it. So he changed it to what is now medium for a little while then just gave QBs the option of changing it himself. He also says that for most QBs medium will probably be the best choice and that the difference is going to more noticeable on shorter throws where the QB has the option to either throw a laser or just a slow toss or anything in between since pass distance isn't an issue.
Bort did an interview right after the new passing style advanced tactic came out where he is asked about passing style and explains all of the above. You can probably dig up if you look hard enough, I seem to recall it was done by some guy that was trying to put together some kind of GLB news source back when the only way to get news was to dig through hundreds of worthless posts in the "Announcements" thread to find the important ones by Bort or to get lucky and find a thread he chimed in on. At least now you can dig up most of the news from the recent announcements and the change log on the front page.
