In a team that is obviously mismatched based on level; how much can tactics actually overcome?

Depends...
If the higher level team has good tactics, you are pretty much fucked either way.

Yeah I figure it would be like that. Wasn't sure how much I could overcome with good tactics.

Well, you can definitely try to find a weak spot in their defense, and exploit it.

well in my experiences the only way that tactics beat skill is when the low skill has amazing tactics or the higher skill has alot of stupid tactics.

This is true, but in my experience you will rarely experience this to the degree that it cannot be overcome. If you have good players and good tactics, you can beat teams that outlevel you by 4-5 levels about 80% of the time. 7-8 levels is a lot tougher, and 10+ levels is probably too much to overcome unless your opponent is completely clueless.

Tautology, do you have any good examples of this? It seems to me in most cases that when the other team averages even 2-3 levels higher, its 'lights out' if they have moderately good tactics.

His post only applies when a team of players who are built very well play against a team 5 levels higher that have absolutely horrible builds.

Pa Dong Dragons vs Krungthep Garudas
The Garudas do not have uber builds, no slow built players at all, almost every player was the first player ever built on GLB by the agent in question so not even much softcap focus and too many SAs too early.
I guess Pa Dong must have real crap for builds (no, they don't), and clearly they didn't care much about the game (2nd round playoff game and they were going to quit the league if they didn't make the Pros this year...they were motivated).
Level difference was probably 4-5 on average (maybe more, now that I look again).

Edit: To be fair, if we played that game 10 times I would feel lucky to win 3 of them...but when it counted, we had their number.
Edit2: I'll also point out that we didn't try for any sort of exploit strategy...no repetitive WRs screens, no hammering the Strong I...we used a mix of about 10 running plays and more than 10 passing plays (I don't recall exactly how many...quite few though). Exploit strategies rarely work against good teams.

I should have phrased things differently....you can beat about 90% of the teams that outlevel by 4-5 most of the time, and another 5% some of the time. Probably adds up to around 80%. The Dragons are a tough team to beat with similar levels, frankly.

I beleive 75-85% of the teams in GLB have sub par builds.
With that said and your goal being to avoid the 100-0 blowouts. you can acheive that pretty easily with great builds and tactics.
in seasons 3-4 on Cybertron War machine(now the combat wombats after I sold) http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=2815 we did not win too many games. However we decided to start our team with level 1-4 players so we could keep a tight grip on players builds. our opponents went for the level 20-30is jplayers . we kept the scores respectable, avoided relegation and pulled off a few upsets. in season 5 we won the conference.
build and tactics are everything in GLB.

yep. and when you try to advise these guys with poor builds, they get all angry and resistant. It's almost laughable.
These are the same guys who start threads begging Bort to nerf speed again because their 1st cap LB sucks

This makes no sense...
"Speed is overpowered"
"No it isn't, your player only has the first cap of speed"
