I rolled a piece of Closing Speed Equipment for my LB. Seems like this might be an awesome piece to buy. What do you guys think?

OLB has 3 in closing speed. I am gonna play tackle on power and put 15 in power tackle.
I am going to be one of the few venturing from wrap up tackle to power tackle and see how many FF will come.

I am intrigued by your attempt, but don't be too surprised if it doesn't pan out. This is my post on another forum:

That's a 48:1 tackle:FFum ratio, or about slightly over 2% to force fumbles. And in the AA league I was in last year , the leading forced-fumbler got 6 vs 123 tackles, or roughly about 4.8%. For the sake of argument let's say the average defensive player is at about 4% to force a fumble. With 10 points in Power Tackle, that means about a 4.8% to force a fumble, and there's no guarantee you even recover the ball. I would much rather spend those points in something like Redzone Freak or one of the booster abilities and get something far more tangible.
I would be interested to see the career stats of any LB out there with a better FFum rate than 5%. I would imagine there wouldn't be that many, and for those that do, they would probably have a poor tackle:missed tackle ratio.

very good point on the effect of the multiplicative percentage increases - especially relating to the presumably low forced fumble chances.
however, even causing an extra +2 turnover ratio throughout the course of the season can translate into a win or 2 extra. even more if multiple players on your team can get that increase. just to play both sides of the argument

I wouldn't really argue this, but if you're going the forced fumble route, be prepared to be disappointed. Remember, there's no guarantee that you'll even recover the fumble; I'm sure everyone here has forced fumbles that were recovered by the offense. However, if you chose to emphasize skills that increased interception rates (esp if you're a CB or safety), then I view these skills as far more worthy since if you get the pick, you get the turnover. If you force a fumble though, you don't automatically get the turnover.
Also consider the opportunity cost. With 10 in Power Tackler, that's 10 lost for something like Track Star, or Quick, or Clutch, or Red Zone Freak, etc. All of those skills can also indirectly contribute to causing fumbles but have a far larger scope than Power Tackling.
The only situation I can see Power Tackling being viable is if Bort upped the % chance to at least 5%. 10 points would then put the increased chance up to 50%, and if you used the numbers I used above, that puts you at a 6% chance to force a fumble. If you then built your player in this way and invested in skills like Monster Hit while switching to Power tackling, you could probably get that total % to roughly 15%. Extrapolate that over a 100 tackle season and you get 15 fumbles and let's assume you recover 10 of those. Nice work there, but don't forget that your missed tackles will then shoot through the roof. This puts a strain on your secondary since they'll have to put in more work tackling HB's, which will then raise your team's overall missed tackles as well, leading to longer gains overall for opposing offenses. No thanks; I would rather force more 3-and-outs than turnovers. Winning the turnover battle is great, but time of possession is far more important than that. And this is all from assuming it's a 5% increase to Power Tackle.
Yeah, the more I think about it, the worse it seems to me. Forcing fumbles is fun and glamorous, but going down that route is really not recommended at all.

this also brings up the same argument for skills like jackhammer, which gives a +3% chance to jar the bar loose during a catch. what would you think the original %chance of doing this would be? high enough to make it a viable VA?

Excellent question, and now it makes me wonder.... is Jackhammer a "force fumble" skill or "pass deflection" skill? It sounds like it forces fumbles but its rare when you see a forced fumble immediately after a catch. However, since it's such a specific event, I still wouldn't recommend it. At least Power Tackle works on HB's too.

yea, i feel that Jackhammer effects a specific event - pass "break-up" for lack of a better term

If it's something that forces incompletes/PD's, then I think it is a much, much better skill.

the problem with about 75% of players is that they play on wrap-up. I am going to play on hard hitter. I currently have
15 power tackle
5 jack hammer
next up
5 in sure tackler
15 power tackle
5 jack hammer
next up
5 in sure tackler
