I've noticed this discussed a little around here but only in regards to specific builds. I figured I would put the question out there with some context.

The question is: Is it better to have high strength or high agility as it relates to NT/DT?

Context - Aren't offensive linemen offsetting a DT/NT focused on high strength when all the OL has to do is build up Strength and Blocking while giving secondary thought to Speed and Agility? If my DT/NT's strength is the same as that of an OL, wouldn't I lose any advantage?

However would a DT/NT with decent strength but high agility have an advantage over OL?

I'm curious to see what everyone thinks.

Yes.

In that...opposite sort of way.

you will never win the strength arms race vs offensive linemen. agility helps you break blocks.

I think this is a problem. A DT will never, ever, even once, push an OT back in this game. If you're trying to make this game 'realistic' i think OTs should have the same leveling strength percentage bonus as DTs.

so if I was going with equipment on a NT, would it make more sense to use it on agility?

I disagree if you're playing NT. Yes putting it on agility will make "you" better, but a NT with a ton of strength, while not pushing the O-line back, will create 1on1 matchups for the rest of your d-line. Thats always what I thought the NT was for in GLB, but it really depends on your system i guess.

Note: 3-4 NT i'd go strength regardless (its really a thankless position)

My DT has been rolling with over 90 str for most of the season. From all the plays that I've see, my NT is constantly being double teamed and it hasn't helped my team a bit. I get taken out of the play and because our DT is strength based as well, the offense is able to block him.

Your statement here does not address the fact that any OL I go against is probably going to have the same str that I have. Other than holding my ground and getting blocked anyway, how does this help our team stop the run?

Examples of high strength NT and DT on the job:

From the League Championship:

(they only ran a couple times...for "some reason." )

From the Conference Championship:

(nice example of breakthrough on that last one)

All equipment is in strength for the DTs and NTs in these examples.

YMMV, of course.

My level 35 NT has high strength, speed and agility and all equipment is on strength with some SAs in there and my team was first in the league against the run without getting a ton of sacks to lower rushing yards. Of course it helps when you have really fast LBs to take away a lot of the outside runs. Also my NT had 83 tackles, 7 sacks and 77 hurries.

My D.T. has been doing a lot better since I put all his equipment in agility. you can see the difference if you look over my stats and game logs. But since you probably don't have the time, or you might have a life, and not want to look so in depth at another players character, I'll just go ahead and tell you it made a huge difference.

Basically why NT/DTs should go Agi is because g/c's arent built to take on those type of guys.

Most G/C's between 30-40 dont even got second capped agi though, while the DTs are pumping it 80+ with atleast 50 speed to go with.
