Hey guys, short and sweet:

Which defense is this that gets the SS versus WR #1?
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=282457&pbp_id=11668124

I'm fairly sure this is some type of Cover 3, I just
do not know how to get the SS vs CB 1 and do not have
enough accepted scrimmages en route to test it before
my next playoff game.

I tried to copy it with a 4-2 Nickel, Cover 3 Man Under,
this was my result:

And for giggles, this is what 4-2 Nickel, Cover 4 with
an MLB Blitz looks like:

I was able to avoid the CB tangle, but the results were
less than spectacular.

I only like to use 3 down linemen if I am blitzing and
prefer a 4-2 versus the run against 3 WR.

Cheers,
Sahoj

The way those CB's back pedal at the snap makes me think Cover 3, too. Perhaps they go into a "Man Under" with "Short Range" for coverage. That may be enough to bring the SS up to the line to cover WR1.

I'll try this in a scrimmie today.

Someone is most certainly blitzing (I think).

To my knowledge, "Range" only deals with the placements of your zone coverages
and most blatantly, where your players in a 'Shell' coverage line up/how far
they go back.

The first example is a 335 Cover 3 Man under.

The reason you couldn't replicate it in your 425 is from having 1 less LB on the field. In your 425, the SS was the only guy left to go man up on the SS.

Try it again with a 335 and you'll probably get the result you're going for.

Hmmm it looks like cover 1 to me.....if it was cover 3 wouldnt there be 3 guys playing outfield?

3-3-5 cover 1 is what i think it looks like, but i guess if it was cover 1 would the outside CB's be closer to the line?? Now Im confused!

How can I tell the difference??

Watch the CB's back pedal into zones at the snap. If it was Cover 1, they would stay closer to the line in MAN coverage. They are also "far off" the Line of Scrimmage to start.

Works great against wr screen but passes in the middle, short range would pick it apart. Worth running if a team telegraphs their wr screens though.

The CB's don't start off as deep as the FS in the cover 3.
