Season after season w/ all the changes going on, we've all witnessed the site move into a more advanced direction. Building your players isn't 1,2,3 anymore, and this time of DIRE NEED w/ CB's, what do you feel makes for a "Great Corner Back"? It's a HUGE question esp. w/ agents slow building and reg. build CB's to fill gaps. This is my FAVORITE argument by far...
Personally I've experimented and became quite successful w/ CB Theory in all levels, including 32+. I'm not going to go into the HUGE discussion I've gone through w/ numerous teams and agents. But this is what I've compiled;
Major Attributes:
- Agility
- Vision
- Stamina
- Jumping
- Speed
- Confidence
- Tackling
* Not in exact order
As anyone who's played the game of football knows, Cornerbacks are a secondary coverage player, meaning they play from the Line of Scrimmage-14yds past line of scrimmage. So personally I feel dumping a majority of your SP's into speed is pointless. Yes it's good when a receiver breaks into the open field, catching up to them, but if we can prevent them from picking up the YAC we won't need a majority speed. I've tooled w/ the theory alot, and actually numerous players have followed my advice and not only turned around their coverage performance, but did it basically overnight rearranging equip. What makes for a great secondary player? Agility; The ability to move left to right w/ ease following route and moving quickly, plus vision to spot the play and pick up the read on the ball.
x = # in Attribute
Agility between 5-10+ the number in your speed. Agi = 5-10+xSpd (Example: 50 Spd; 55-60 Agi) The speed will be the rate you move once you accelerate to full level. So w/ the intricacy of the play routes now; Slants, Corners, Slots, etc... We want to move w/ ease in those routes w/o being faked out of our cleats. Now add a nice number in the vision, we'll be able to pick up a BEAUTIFUL read on the ball and A.) knock it down, or B.) pick it off. Get what I'm saying?
Case & Point; I feel Agility & Vision should be ANY Cornerbacks #1 Priority, followed by Spd, Stamina, Tackling & Jumping. In that order. Tackling & Jumping can be swapped to the discretion of the agent.
If I confused anyone or anyone would like further detail I don't mind breaking it down more. What are your views on a "Great Cornerback"?

I've seen the agility theory work effectively in many zones; Cover 4 Buzz (4-3 Over) to the simplistic Cover 2 (4-3), and I've seen TONS of effective plays in man coverage from 3 Man Under (Nickle) to Dime Man (Dime).
