Forum > Goal Line Blitz > Tactics Discussion > In a weak side LB shift which gap does the ROLB blitz?
Link

I'm trying to stop a sweep to the weak side and I'm think that if I shift to weak side and blitz the ROLB I might have a clear path to the RB but it seems the backer is jumping in between the LG and LT. Is that what he should be expected to do?

I've also considered going 4CB on this type of play and blitzing the CB and shifting to the weak side.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

You should specify the defense you are using.

Unless you're up against a power back. Most CB don't have the tackling ability to handle that much strength.

Taut is right though - the gaps depend on the defensive alignment.

4-3. Weak side shift, ROLB he seems to just be shooting in between the LG and LT. This was in a game vs a cupcake who ran all but 7 times so it's hard to tell if the LB was blitzing that gap or if hesaw the play develop already.

thanks for the feedback

*This setup is against Strong I, I, and Pro Set

It sounds to me like you are setup with a strong side shift. The ROLB hits that gap in a strong side shift, hopefully looking something like this:
