We are palying some tough teams that out level our guys by 3 or so levels, 15 to 18 say.
What is a good defensive strategy to keep the game close? I went with:

Blitz 10%
Run/Pass 50-50%
Inside/Outside 50/50%
Zone 70%
Short 10% Medium 45% Long 45%

I have set my players to medium coverage, semi-agressive. Is this good, bad, or in between and what would you set tatics at?

Thanks

You will have to outmaneuver them using AI settings. Basic tactics aren't really going to cover 3 levels here. Look at what they run out of each formation for each down...what they do in the redzone...what they do on the goalline.

yea you have to scout them out and hope they don't do the same to you. stop their best blitzer, be in position to stop their run, hope they don't connect on a lot of long passes...it's pretty hard to be honest.

Scouting can take a lot of time but can be fun. Here's a couple scripts that help:

http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/28938

http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/33496

You must first have mozilla 3.0 and grease monkey installed for them to work.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748

Use both of these together to figure out things like:

What do they usually do on 1st and ten?

3rd and short?

2nd and 4-7?

Etc etc.

Base your defense around down/distance/number of wr's and you'll see an improvement (if you did it right lol.)

I find if your cb's are outleveled by enough to make it impossible to keep their passing to a reasonable game, then you want to blitz more to try and rush the qb. I tried double coverage and it did no good since the qb too much time to wait for the perfect time to complete a pass

yeah if youre gonna lose anyway its best to gamble hard, cuz youre gonna win on some gambles just going by the numbers/odds

There is no defense.

They run Strong-I Off Tackle, or Single Back Dive all game, and you lose.

Welcome to GLB.

To the OP, I read once that if your D line is out matched blitz more but never more than 45%. I also read that if your CBs are out matched use more zone.

I personally rarley use zone even if out matched so I can't speak for that out of personal experience. I do however like blitzing when out matched on the D line and less whne my D line out matches the O line. Thats just my opinion. I wish you luck with your upcoming games.

I've always heard people say how zone sucks so I've always been afraid to try it and get burned. Maybe one of these scrimmages.

Where is single back dive? All I see is HB Slam for Single Back

It's called slam, but they more often than not run a dive.

There's an example of it...

That team also runs it the ENTIRE game, and win a game that they should have lost. Granted, the defense for the other team was pretty poorly set up for it, but still. Also, some of them look like they might be:

I think the reason single back runs are so successful is most defenses are still set up using last season's AI. That or they're trying to stil take advantage of the weakside overload blitz against Singleback. I know that was working crazy good in preseason but Bort has fixed it during preseason
