Do they work? Until now I have only really seen Speed WR's rack in the huge yardage. My WR is being asked to become an Agility, Jumping, Catching heavy WR and I'm curious if anyone has a possession WR (true possession, not a balanced or speed WR they call a possession WR because his catch is softcapped) that is doing good.

Just randomly checking a few leagues...here is a likely suspect:

Just wondering, didn't you used to have a WR in the 30s? Grim... something?
I could have sworn.
It's going to be hard to find good examples of possession WRs because nowdays 99.99% of the WRs out there who consider themselves possession guys don't realize that they're simply using "possession" as an excuse for "not fast". Possession WRs need 2nd capped jumping/catching at the very least and I really don't think many 35+ guys have that.

I did. Grim Johnson, he was on the Aces until he retired, but he was also a 95 Speed guy with only capped catch and agility with... reasonably high jumping (50). Thus, not a possession WR. And as you could have guessed, playing on the Aces didn't really offer me much a lot at possession WR's... lol.

I have a level 29 WR who would probably be classed as a possession WR.
Strength: 27 Blocking: 8
Speed: 52.7 Tackling: 8
Agility: 51.7 Throwing: 8
Jumping: 42.51 Catching: 69.7
Stamina: 32.02 Carrying: 32.1
Vision: 48.57 Kicking: 10
Confidence: 31.17 Punting: 9
Possession: 3-4-3-4-2
Speedster: 0-0-0-0-0
Currently working on soft capping jumping and training strength with a view to eventually soft capping that too in most likelihood but that will probably be after getting to the second soft cap on agility.
He does ok; 575 yards in the WR2 slot this season and in the play by plays does seem to make catches that would otherwise be PD's/ints where the ball jiggles around between him and the CB.
I built him as there's a plethora of speed receivers out there but I wanted a receiver who you could rely on to make the catch most of the time and block his opposing CB for outside runs and in that respect it does seem to have worked; 3 drops and 11 pancakes this season. He's not going to set the world on fire but will make the catch the majority of the time.

I'm in the same boat Shatner
my guy tends to be the one who gets the ball thrown to him when all the receivers are covered because of his possession receiving abilities.
I think he's got about 600 yds, 7 TDs this season, but also 30 pancakes! He's a very strong blocker on outside runs and always takes his man out of the play.
His numbers are pretty quiet in blowout games because all the speedsters take over, but he always steps up and has at least 5 receptions and a TD in those close games where our offense has a little tougher time moving the ball. Throughout his career he's been pretty clutch on 3rd downs...not really sure why that is but most of his catches end up being on 3rd down even though we run several receiver sets for most of the game...

I have the suspicion (no solid evidence) that the ball is more likely to be thrown to a possession guy on 3rd down. Would make some sense at least.

My receiver would be classified more as a balanced receiver, though I am trying to make him more possession oriented.
23 str (process of training it)
53.14 agility (59.14 w/equipment)
60.92 speed
35.43 Jump (training it)
50.18 Vision
52.15 Catch (68.14 w/equipment)
26.96 Carry
32.25 Confidence
Possession SA: 4, 3, 3, 3, 3 (with CE)
Goals are 2nd cap agility, 1st cap jump, 2nd cap catching while training strength.
Stats this season:
76 Receptions, 1,291.5 yards, 14 TDs, 4 drops, 552.5 yards after catch and 8 pancakes (the pancakes just make me smile)
He doesn't start on our team, by design. He backups WR1, 2, 3 and 4 who are speed receivers - yet is the teams leading receiver with the fewest drops.

I just started on a possession WR and Im wondering how important carrying is? Is it just for after the catch or does it help in catching too?

High jumping, very high agility, high catching, high possession SAs, softcapped confidence and you should be a very good possession receiver.
The main stat to worry about is probably agility, because a lot of CBs and WRs alike softcap agi/speed quickly, but then dump all their points from equipment or double soft cap points into speed first.. so if they have 80 speed, and 55 agility, and you have say.. 65 speed and 70 agility, you are actually able to get open in short range "possession" type areas. You won't beat them out for flies, but you can still come down with jump balls, especially on third down.. And when you run those quick slants and ins, you're more likely to be open.
So I'd say agility first, then of course to make sure you're a good target for your QB, your catch and vision has to be good to actually make the catch, and good confidence as always in case you start off with a drop or a bad pass, so it doesn't cripple your chances at coming down with it.
Lastly, and this is just theory, carrying shouldn't be ignored, not because you don't want to fumble or break more tackles, but the guys with higher carry that I have watched seem to have more clean catch plays which translate into big yards.. if you bobble the ball, you aren't going very far usually.
Here's a play example from my possession guy.. I didn't exactly scout the earth to find a great example, but I know I couldn't beat this guy deep all day, but I was open all day underneath.. I took it from a game where we lost, but yes the WR is much higher than the CB.. still I think it's fairly on topic with my agility versus speed argument for possession WRs.

Both our starting WRs probably fall into your categorisation as possession guys, though our WR#1 is more of an agility build. 100+ receptions each, both over a 1000yds, i'd say in the right system they work well.
