I see it is a cover-1, but I am wondering....it looks like the FS is pretty much not doing anything....what are some options that would have me not be playing a 'man down'?

Cover 0 will have your FS cover the HB or double a WR. But that will leave your CBs no help over the top.

Cover 1 on a 3rd and long with 3 wrs isn't my favorite play. If I've scouted the team and see they always pass there, I'll go with a 3-2-6 or something similar to that. If they have weak OT's then I'll do a normal dime. I like using a cover 2 in those.

Cover 2 helps a bit...

okay, it's a 4-2, cover 1, man coverage, weak side shift for the LB's with the MLB blitzing. Corners 1 and 3 are playing medium coverage and corner 2 is playing close coverage. Corner 2 isn't fast enough to keep up while corners 1 and 3 don't have the agility to break up a long pass. A cover 2 man long would give more help to the corners but would leave a LB in single coverage against the TE. You might try a 3-3 cover 2 with a weak side blitz and man to man long coverage.

I'd run a 3-2 Cover 1 Man with a weak side shift, a blitzing ROLB and CB3, and medium distance.

Probably wouldn't work being in a capped league though, CB's would probably be too slow to cause much pressure.

Blitzing isn't worth it at all unless they have high speed/agil. All it does is cost defenders and the QB still has enough time, if he's worth a damn, anyway.

Hmmm...seems to work well enough for 2 teams I DC for, one being Pro, and the other being a 21 capped league.

They probably have good speed then

I'm just saying its not worth it if the guys are too slow to get to the qb. I see some teams do it and it's just too high risk, too little reward.

True you have to work with the talent you have. It's pretty obvious that the corners in this case need help. That would mean cover 2. A 3 man line almost requires some kind of blitzing. A 4 man front might get away without a blitz. Still with cover 2 a LB will be singled up on the TE. If he's not up to it it will be a big day for the TE. Also with help deep the corners should be in close coverage.

Biggest issue with Cover 1 is that the FS doesn't take anyone...Just roams around. Only adds some value for down field tackling.

If he's fast, it's a nice safety net to have, and allows you to be rather aggressive with your front 10.

CB blitz works well even in the cap 13 league. Works better than a LB blitz most of the time.
