FAT DADDY CA$H’S CORNER: Week 7!

Week 6 saw little change in Zeta’s ranking as only 2 teams moved up one spot each. It may be a sign that things are stabilizing some in Zeta or it’s a result of the Top 8 teams all picking on the bottom 8 teams this week.

In Alpha, things were very different as once again there was some major shuffling. Part of this was due to some big upsets (Minotaurs anyone?) as well as some signs of life from the bottom 8 of the Conference.

As we near the half way mark, certain things are becoming clear, most importantly is that no one can afford to take a game off. The talent in both Conferences is too much to overlook anyone. It’s going to be a very interesting finish to Season 6.

FDC

Note: I will be traveling this week starting Monday and will still be doing the write ups, though some might be abridged.

Zeta Power Rankings: Week 7

1. Stockholm Meatballs (6-0)
Last Week: 1
The coveted TSW Cup will reside in Stockholm for another year – or at least until a potential playoff re-match with the Longnecks. It wasn’t a pretty game by any means, but Stockholm found a way to defeat PPP 38-27 as they snagged 3 INTs and returned 2 special team fumbles for TDs. The win sets up a huge showdown with the 6-0 Ballers in a game that may very well determine the Number 1 seed in Zeta.

2. Berlin Ballers (6-0)
Last Week: 3 (+1)
The Ballers piled onto Rotterdam’s misery by pummeling the Roughnecks 51-16. The game was actually tight in the first half, but Rotterdam’s inability to score TDs in the red zone bit them. In the second half, the Ballers’ big-play offense took over, scoring 31 points in the final two stanzas. It’s the Ballers’ first trip to the Top 2 in the rankings and the stay will be short lived. After next week’s game they’ll either find themselves comfortably in first place, or slugging it out with Sevilla, PPP and the Pimps.

3. PPP Longnecks (5-1)
Last Week: 2 (-1)
PPP drops only one spot after their loss to the Meatballs. While the Longnecks feasted on turnovers to beat Korb earlier in the season, they found themselves on the short end of that stick this week. 5 costly turnovers cost the Longnecks a game they may well should have won. Coupled with Sevilla’s close win over BFM, it’s difficult to drop the Longnecks much further than the 3 spot. The Longnecks are entering the brutal portion of their schedule and upcoming games against the Pimps and Ballers will test their staying power in the Top 4.

4. Sevilla Naranjas (5-1)
Last Week: 4
No one expected the Sevilla – Black Forest game to be a defensive slug fest, certainly not after Sevilla’s power running game had dominated 4 other teams this season. Every expert (okay, just me) thought this one might get a bit on the ugly side based on how poor the Mercs’ defense had been so far this season. But in what might be the quickest turnaround in WEPL, BMF had plenty of teeth on offense and defense this week. Sevilla failed to break the 90-yard barrier on the ground despite 35 attempts. Instead, the Naranjas were forced to rely on their own defense and a big play from QB Dime Drop in a game that saw a total of 19 punts. The close 13-10 win keeps Sevilla anchored at the 4 spot as they prepare to face a desperate Dynasty team.

5. Rivals Mainboard Pimps (4-2)
Last Week: 5
New Pimp HB Tremaine Stephens threw himself whole-heartedly into the Antwerp/Pimp rivalry by rushing for 3 first quarter TDs, giving the Pimps a lead they would hold the rest of the way. Stephens was just getting started however as he would chip in 2 more TDs – giving him 5 TDs and 164 yards on just 12 carries. The astounding numbers up by the Pimps on offense was just another set back for the Annihilators in their continued struggle to adjust to WEPL. For the Pimps, the win allows them to focus on their big match-up with the Longnecks in what should be a doozy of a game. A win over the Longnecks would put the Pimps back into the Top 4 and with a relatively soft schedule remaining, should give them an excellent chance to remain there for the rest of the season.

6. Multiple Scorgasms (5-1)
Last Week: 6
Despite giving up 514 yards (310 on the ground and 203 through the air) to The Dynasty, the Scorgasms still found a way to win – namely by turning to their new star QB McMahon. McMahon had a brilliant day, completing 71% of his passes for 441 yards and 4 TDs. The brilliant passing attack was bolstered by inspired play from the Multiple O-Line who only allowed 3 sacks and 6 hurries on 31 drop backs to one of the league’s better pass rushing units.

7. Korb Destroyers (4-2)
Last Week: 7
Korb extended their winning streak to 2 games with a 52 to 7 pummeling of Ice & Fire. Korb stuck to the ground game, chewing up the clock and the yards as they amassed 360 yards on 60 carries. The offense was so effective, they only punted one time the whole game. The Destroyers’ D was not about to be overshadowed by the offense as they held Ice & Fire to 2.2 yards on 31 carries as well as forcing 2 turnovers and registering 4 sacks and 13 hurries. The all around impressive play by Korb has given them back some much needed morale after their two game skid. With the rejuvenated Aggies up next, the Destroyers will put their newfound momentum to the test.

8. Reykjavik Aggies (4-2)
Last Week: 8
Reykjavik notched their third win in a row as they dispatched the Musketeers 44 to 27. The Aggies maintained excellent balance on offense, rushing 54 times for 213 yards while QB Campbell threw for 263 yards and 2 TDs. Despite how impressive the offense looked, the Aggies D was put through the ringer by a steadily improving Paris offense. Paris threw 41 times for 347 yards en route to a 412-yard offensive day. The Aggies will need to find more defensive firepower if they hope to upset Korb this week.

9. Lyon Dynasty (3-3)
Last Week: 9
With everyone ranked 9 through 14 losing, nothing much changes for Lyon despite their 31-37 loss to Multiple. At 3-3 they remain a notch above the 2-4 teams. The road doesn’t get any easier for the suddenly slumping Dynasty as a huge showdown with the Naranjas looms. A win would not only stop the bleeding but would get them an important 4th win. With one of the toughest closing schedules in Zeta, Lyon cannot afford to extend their losing streak any further. If the Dynasty run defense can play as well as they did against Multiple it will give them a shot to pull the upset.

10. Rotterdam Roughnecks (2-4)
Last Wee: 10
After their 4th loss in a row, the front office of Rotterdam has begun to make some moves to shore up their leaky defense. First on the agenda was signing DE Peter Tordenskjold, a pass rush specialist who racked up 42 sacks last season and has 18 on the year thus far. Corey has promised more moves are forthcoming as Rotterdam tries to find answers on defense. They had their chances against the Ballers this past week but ultimately fell apart inside the red zone while their defense gave up a half a dozen explosive plays. At 2-4 with relatively soft schedule remaining there is enough time for the Roughnecks to save their season and crawl into the playoffs. But it’s going to take a near perfect run to accomplish that.

11. Paris Musketeers (2-4)
Last Week: 11
Paris’s two game win streak came to a halt against the Aggies in Week 6 – but they once again looked sharp despite the loss. Over the past few weeks the passing game has improved as Christian Soldier and Ace Rivers continue to split time. Unfortunately the rushing game has been left in the dust as they have failed to crack the 100-yard barrier in 4 of their 6 games this season. Before Paris can seriously get back in the playoff hunt, they’re going to need to find balance on offense and ease the pressure being placed on their QBs’ shoulders.

12. ATOIAF (2-4)
Last Week: 12
A third straight loss has Ice & Fire scrambling for answers. After a promising start over the first three weeks of the season, Ice & Fire has looked a bit lost on both sides of the ball. Against Korb that trend continued as the rush defense was gashed for over 300 yards and showed no ability to get off the field and give their offense a chance. The good news is Porto is next up on the docket. The bad news is that immediately following Porto Ice & Fire enters their most difficult stretch of the season with consecutive games against Rotterdam, Stockholm, Pimps, Longnecks and Berlin.

13. Black Forest Mercenaries (1-5)
Last Week: 14 (+1)
Black Forest gets a bump up despite losing based on how sharp they looked against the Naranjas last week. The Black Forest defense which had been the source of much of the team’s suffering was excellent, holding the high powered rushing attack of Sevilla to just 83 yards on 35 carries. In total the defense only allowed 261 yards and forced 9 punts – by far the best numbers they’ve posted all season long. Key to helping the defense out was the ball control offense employed by BFM who held the ball for 30 minutes and change. If the team can continue to improve at such a rapid rate they could find themselves making a steady climb up the rankings.

14. Antwerp Annihilators (1-5)
Last Week: 13 (-1)
Someone had to fall in order for BFM to get their bump up. Antwerp drew the short straw as they suffered their 5th consecutive loss, this time to their bitter rivals the Pimps. While the offense put up the most points they’ve scored all year (37), the defense once again was torched for 55 points and 429 yards (309 coming on the ground). The run defense allowed the Pimps to average 8.8 yards per carry and was unable to mount much pressure on QB Pohl. With an improved BFM team up next, the Annihilators are going to have to find a way to get back to basics before they can get back in the W column.

15. UK Patriots (1-5)
Last Week: 15
The Pats tasted victory for the first time all year with their 125-3 point victory over the Reconquistas. With Rotterdam up next, the Pats have to hope they can carry over some of the momentum from this win.

16. Porto Reconquistas (0-6)
Last Week: 16
Porto will be here all year folks … be sure to tip your waitress and try the veal!

Alpha Power Rankings: Week 7

1. Paris Philharmonic (5-1)
Last Week: 2 (+1)
The Philharmonic are the biggest beneficiaries of the shake up in Alpha’s ratings as they jump up to the top spot with their 5th straight win. It wasn’t an easy win as Chicago gave them all they could handle, getting to within 1 point heading into the 4th quarter. But it wasn’t enough as Steve Tarkenton’s 62-yard bomb to Sinai Montano early in the 4th quarter put the final nail in the Rocks’ coffin. With a logjam of 5-1 teams in the Top 4, Paris will have to be sharper in coming games if they hope to hang onto the top spot. Their showdown with Black Watch will be the Philharmonics’ first opportunity to square off against another top ranked team this season. A win would go a long ways towards proving that Paris still is the team to beat in Alpha.

2. Black Watch (5-1)
Last Week: 3 (+1)
In a tightly fought defensive battle, Black Watch managed to eek out a 17-9 victory over the Lumberjacks. Black Watch scored the only two touchdowns of the day in the first quarter, one on an 46 yard pick-six and the other on 3 yard TD plunge that capped an impressive 10 play drive. So far this season Black Watch has showed they can win the shootouts as well as the defensive struggles, making them perhaps the most difficult team to scheme against. This week that distinction will be put to the test against Paris in what should be a dynamite game.

3. London Monarchs (5-1)
Last Week: 1 (-2)
The Monarchs were the victims of the most shocking upset of the season thus far as the Minotaurs pounded them 47-28. The Monarch defense was torched for close to 500 yards, including 243 on the ground. The Defense was unable to get out of its own way as it only forced the Minotaurs to punt twice the entire game. The loss was certainly a step back for a team that had been living on the edge all season long surrendering an average of 33 points a game thus far this season. With only Paris and Wembley remaining on their schedule, the Monarchs are still in the driver’s seat as far as seeding goes, but they must improve on defense if they have a shot of contending for the Alpha crown.

4. London Minotaurs (5-1)
Last Week: 5 (+1)
I know, I know! How can I have the Minotaurs ranked below a team they just beat by 19 points? I’m high again, right? Drunk? Maybe. It was certainly a tough call but there is logic behind it. The Monarchs got the edge because they are 2-1 against the other top 3 teams this season while the Minotaurs are only 1-0. If the Minotaurs can repeat their upset performance and knock off Woodridge this week, then things will certainly change in the rankings. For now, the Minotaurs are busy making my pre-season prediction look brilliant. And I thank them.

5. Dinas Mawddwy Red Bandits (4-2)
Last Week: 8 (+3)
The Red Bandits overcame a 20-6 half time deficit to pull off the second biggest upset of the week, knocking the Warriors out of the Top 4. The game with the Warriors was as close as one can get. Both teams put up near identical stats, each turned the ball over twice, and both teams punted 5 times. The difference turned out to be the Red Bandit’s 60-yard punt return for a TD at the start of the 4th quarter. Sometimes it takes all three phases to win – this was one of those games. The Red Bandits won’t have much time to rest as the Aggies are up next.

6. Wembley Warriors (4-2)
Last Week: 4 (-2)
The Warriors would love to have another shot at the Red Bandits. Their 23-20 loss stings considering how tight the game was and how meaningful the loss could become if the playoff chase boils down to tie breakers. The Warriors get a bit of a break over the next two weeks as they play Carthage and Chicago – meaning they should get to 6-2 before having to tangle with the Philharmonic.

7. Woodridge Lumberjacks (3-3)
Last Week: 6 (-1)
The Lumberjacks dropped their second straight to the new elite of Alpha, this time in a defensive struggle to Black Watch. While there’s no shame in losing a close game to a team as talented as Black Watch, the Lumberjacks suddenly find themselves in dire straights with the Minotaurs up next. A third straight loss will not dash the Lumberjacks’ playoff hopes thanks to the slew of sub .500 teams holding the 8 through 16 spots. However a third straight loss to a top team will cause many to doubt the Lumberjacks’ ability to make any sort of run once the playoffs begin.

8. Berlin Blitzkrieg (2-4)
Last Week: 9 (+1)
Berlin countered the Nighthawks power rushing attack with an impressive ground game of their own in their 31-24 point victory. Putting the ball on the ground 51 times for 335 yards was enough to secure time of possession as well as give QB Enor enough room to complete 18 of 28 passes for 130 yards and 2 TDs. The win was the second straight for Berlin but it was the fourth straight game in which the Blitz looked sharp. Berlin is rounding into form and will be a tough out for anyone left on their schedule. If they keep improving, there’s no telling how far they can go once the playoffs begin.

9. Stuttgart Nighthawks (3-3)
Last Week: 7 (-2)
Stuttgart finds themselves out of the Top 8 for the first time in several weeks thanks to the narrow loss suffered at the hands of Berlin. With all three of the Nighthawk losses coming at the hands of Top 8 clubs, there is growing concern that Stuttgart just can’t match up with the top teams in the conference. The second half schedule is brutal with showdowns against all the Top 5 teams remaining. The Nighthawks are going to have to beat 2 or 3 of those teams to hold onto their playoff dreams. First up will be Lake Charles, a streaky team whom the Nighthawks can ill afford to lose to.

10. Fightin’ Texas Aggies (2-4)
Last Week: 10
Despite giving up 413 yards on defense, the Aggies managed to squeak out a win over the fast improving Wrecking Crew 31-27. Both teams appeared to be mirror images of one another as each rushed for over 250 yards while throwing for under 150. Each team also had 2 turnovers and a total of 3 punts. Texas will need to maintain that sort of offensive balance this week as they face off against the surprising Red Bandits. A win would be their first against a Top 8 club and might be the type of spark this team needs to push through a brutal closing schedule.

11. E-City Mercenaries (2-4)
Last Week: 13 (+2)
E-City exploded offensively against the Who Dats as they put the breaks on a 3 game losing streak. With 505 yards of offense there were no lack of heroics. But HB Duncan Idaho’s 174 yards and 20 broken tackles stands out. Despite allowing 31 points, the Mercs’ defense was not too shabby themselves. Holding Lake Charles to just 39 yards on the ground and under the Who Dats’ QBs to under a 50% completion rate, the Mercs seemed to break out of their early season funk. With a brutal 4 game stretch ahead against both London teams, Black Watch and Woodridge, the Mercs will have to hope that sort of play continues. If they can find a way to win 2 of those 4, the Mercs will find themselves right back in the thick of the playoff hunt.

12. Aberdeen Wrecking Crew (1-5)
Last Week: 11 (-1)
Over the past two weeks Aberdeen is 0-2 but is slowly beginning to turn the table. Both loses have come to Top 10 teams and the Wrecking Crew were close to pulling out the victory in each one. But with nearly half the season gone, close is no longer good enough. The Wrecking Crew needs to start finding ways to win if they have any hope of climbing back into the race. That sense of urgency will start this week against the scalding hot Blitz.

13. Lake Charles Who Dats (1-5)
Last Week: 12 (-1)
Lake Charles was dealt their second straight close loss, this time to the improving Mercenaries. Lake Charles has been an enigma all season long, just as Chicago has been, making both teams near impossible to slot in these rankings. The Who Dats are more than capable of scoring points and also capable of stopping teams – they just have not shown the ability to do both things at once so far this season. With match ups against Stuttgart, AWC and Dinas up next, Lake Charles still has a shot to get into the race. But they are going to have to go 3-0 in that stretch. Even one loss will effectively knock them out of the playoff hunt, even if they aren’t mathematically eliminated.

14. Chicago Rocks (2-4)
Last Week: 14
Chicago is giving me ulcers. Seriously guys, think of me for once! Last week I gave Chicago a brutal time for getting creamed 97-0 at the hands of Black Watch. It was the second time this year I had buried the Rocks near the bottom of the rankings. Then this week, the Rocks come within 8 points of knocking off Paris in a well-played game on both sides. Just like Lake Charles, Chicago is a team that is operating without a rudder. One week they appear to be cruising while the next they are crashing into the rocks. Chicago’s schedule is brutal after their Week 7 match up with Toledo. Even with 2 wins it’s the playoff window is very small and it’s going to take a near perfect run to pull it off.

15. Carthage Army of Darkness (1-5)
Last Week: 15
Carthage got their first win of the year at the expense of the Swords last week. The 54-0 victory gives the Army of Darkness a week to feel good at themselves and bask in the game’s highlights before having to figure out a way to pull off an upset against Wembley.

16. Toledo Swords (0-6)
Last Week: 16
They’ll be here all year …

Week 7 Previews & Picks
Last Week: 12-4
Season Total: 70-26

Zeta

Lyon Dynasty (3-3) at Sevilla Naranjas (5-1):
The Dynasty are better than their 3-3 record indicates and came within a whisker of upsetting Multiple this past week. Sevilla has been red hot and methodically worked their way into the Top 4 of Zeta. Both teams can run the football and rush the passer, making this an interesting match up on both sides of the ball. Both teams have difficult schedules to close the season and cannot afford a loss meaning we should see some highly motivated dots take the field. In the end, I have to go with Sevilla who proved they could win the tight ones last week. Sevilla wins 39-34.

Rivals Mainboard Pimps (4-2) - PPP Longnecks (5-1):
This one has the potential to be the best game of the week. Both teams have explosive offenses with talented HBs and the ability to air it out if they need to. Defensively PPP has Zeta’s best rush defense as well as one of the most opportunistic secondaries. The Pimps have shown the ability to score on anyone with ease but their own defense has been suspect at best, giving up an average of 40 points over the past 3 games. If the Pimps hope to knock off the ‘Necks, they’re going to need to be sharper on the defensive side of the ball. This is a game that can easily go either way. But I have to go with the better defense in this one. PPP wins 31-27.

Paris Musketeers (2-4) at Multiple Scorgasms (5-1):
Paris will make this a closer game than most will expect. Multiple may have benefited from a soft schedule to open the season, but at 5-1 the team is no joke. Paris on the other hand has struggled to start but there have been signs recently that the ship is in the midst of being righted. Still, it’s going to take more than just a passing game for Paris to pull this one off, they are going to need to find their mojo in the running game as well. I don’t see that happening this week. Scorgasms win 29-27.

Korb Destroyers (4-2) at Reykjavik Aggies (4-2):
The Aggie offense has finally come to life, averaging 48 points during the last three games. On the other side of the field Korb has been stout on defense, holding teams to an average of 17 points a game this season, despite giving up 37 to the Ballers in one game. In their past two wins the Destroyers have gone back to their ground game, relying on their trio of backs to churn out yards and chew up the clock. The Aggies defense has not been sharp against the run this year and could be in trouble against the Destroyers. While I think this has the potential to be a great game, I have to yet again go with the better defensive team. Korb wins 34-20.

Rotterdam Roughnecks (2-4) at UK Patriots (1-5):
The Patriots tasted victory for the first time last week – a sensation that Rotterdam hasn’t been able to relate to in the past 4 weeks. With the Roughnecks finally turning their attention to defense, this just might be the week they get back on the winning track. The Roughnecks are the better team on paper, but so far this season they have not shown any real mastery of the new tactics available. They’ll still find a way to win this game, but it might be time for Corey to really dig into the AI, either himself or by hiring an OC and DC to do it for him. Roughnecks win 55-35.

Antwerp Annihilators (1-5) at Black Forest Mercenaries (1-5):
Black Forest took a big step forward last week with an impressive defensive effort. The Annihilators took a step backwards against the Pimps, or at very best remained in neutral. This will be an interesting match up as both teams have more talent than their record indicates. If the Annihilators can win it will set a nice tone for a very soft second half schedule. If the Mercs win it might be the boost they need as they head into a very difficult second half schedule. This is a coin flip for me. Black Forest wins 30-29.

Porto (0-6) at Ice & Fire (2-4):
No shockers here. Ice & Fire win … big.

Game of the Week: Zeta

Stockholm Meatballs (6-0) at Berlin Ballers (6-0):
There’s no rest for anyone in WEPL as the Meatballs, fresh from their narrow victory over their bitter rival Longnecks, have to travel to Berlin for a chance to be the first team to knock off the Ballers. For Berlin, it’s the first game in a brutal three game stretch that will put their undefeated record to the test.

The Ballers utterly dominated the Roughnecks in Week 6, displaying a big-play passing attack and a dynamic running game anchored by Heather Marie. Defensively they held the Roughnecks out of the end zone for much of the day despite several early drives deep into Baller territory. Stockholm relied on special teams and turnovers to best the Longnecks in a game that wasn’t exactly pretty.

This should be a great match up as Berlin brings the top ranked pass rush and passing attack against one of Zeta’s best O-lines and defensive units. If Stockholm can find a way to keep Gunn Slinger off his back and if Mal Brown can find some holes in the Berlin front seven, Stockholm just might take it. Berlin is going to need to rely on their playmaking DEs and dynamite WRs to make big plays against this defense and jump out to an early lead. The closer the game is at half time the better it is for Stockholm’s power rushing attack.

While I’m far too biased (again) to make this pick, this will be a great game as it features a smash mouth team versus a finesse team. In my opinion smash mouth usually wins out. Stockholm wins 38-27.

Alpha

London Monarchs (5-1) at E-City Mercenaries (2-4):
The Monarchs are anxious to bounce back from their first loss of the year and will be out to make E-City suffer. The biggest question coming into the game is the status of the Monarch’s defense that has been torched by nearly everyone they’ve faced this season. Fortunately the Monarchs have one of WEPL’s best offenses and has been able to get by, but they would love to see some marked improvement from the boys on D. If E-City can run the ball as effectively as they did last week, they could keep the Monarchs’ O on the sidelines and give themselves a fighting chance. It’s a good plan, but I don’t see it happening. Monarchs win 49-42.

Woodridge Lumberjacks (3-3) at London Minotaurs (5-1):
Woodridge, reeling from back-to-back loses flat out needs to win this game against the Minotaurs who are fresh off the biggest upset of the season thus far. Woodridge’s defense looked great against the might Black Watch and if they can repeat that kind of effort they will make life difficult for the high-flying Minotaurs. London will be looking to keep the Lumberjacks off balance with their rushing game while taking some shots deep. This one promises to be a great game that will turn on a big turnover. Woodridge wins, 30-29.

Fightin’ Texas Aggies (2-4) at Dinas Red Bandits (4-2):
The Red Bandits have been the most surprising team in Alpha so far this season. Fresh off their 3 point win over the Warriors, the Red Bandits will be looking to avoid a let down against the dangerous Texas club. The Aggies have had a bone-crushing schedule thus far but if they can reach the half waypoint with a 4-4 record, they’ll be in great position. In order to get there, they will need to find a way to maintain the impressive ground game they displayed against AWC. I think they can do it. Aggies pull the upset 38-33.

Wembley Warriors (4-2) at Army of Darkness (1-5):
Carthage’s feeling of victory might be short lived as the stinging Warriors head to town intent on getting back on the winning track. Despite the surprising loss to the Red Bandits, the Warriors have looked good to start the season and certainly should be able to handle the struggling Carthage squad who is still looking for their sea legs. Wembley wins 54-14.

Lake Charles Who Dats (1-5) at Stuttgart Nighthawks (3-3):
No one really knows what to expect from Lake Charles week in and week out. The same cannot be said for Stuttgart who is constantly solid in their game planning and execution. The Nighthawks will be looking to establish their ground game early and often to keep Lake Charles’ offense on the sidelines. The plan should work. Stuttgart wins 33-29.

Berlin Blitzkrieg (2-4) at Aberdeen Wrecking Crew (1-5):
The tale of two teams: Berlin has found their groove and seems to have shaken off the rust from their slow start. Meanwhile Aberdeen has yet to find their rhythm and is nearing desperation time. This should be an intriguing game as both teams are capable of beating anyone if they can get their acts together. As much as I think AWC is close to turning things around, Berlin is already there. Berlin wins 41-30.

Toledo Swords (0-6) at Chicago Rocks (2-4):
No surprises here … Chicago wins … by a lot.

Game of the Week: Alpha

Black Watch (5-1) at Paris Philharmonic (5-1):
This should be yet another fantastic game as the top two teams in Alpha battle it out for the right to be number 1. For Paris it’s a chance to re-establish their claim as the Champs. For Black Watch it’s a chance for them to put some distance between themselves and the rest of the Top 4.

Paris has looked fantastic as of late while Black Watch has been impressive in all 6 games this season – even their loss to the Monarchs. Both teams have explosive offenses and opportunistic defenses. However Black Watch sports the 3rd ranked defense in all of WEPL. Paris is going to find the going tough on the ground against Black Watch and might try their hand attacking the more vulnerable secondary. With Paris sporting one of the league’s best pass defenses, Black Watch would be wise to employ a steady diet of Dorset and Lett to eat clock and wear down the Philharmonic defense.

This one is just going to be fun to watch. I can’t wait. But since I have to pick a winner I’m once again going to go with my oh-so-original theory that defense wins championships. Black Watch wins 30-23.

Great write up as usual FDC, always look forward to reading it!

Glad we have been able to confirm your pre-season hunch. Everybody in the Minotaurs camp does know that the work begins here and there is a long tough stretch of games ahead of us

Have a great trip!

Thanks for the writeup, looking forward to a great game this week.

Is this where I make my 'Heather Marie > Mal Brown' statement or do I need to start my own thread for that?
