Would 90 speed 60 agility or 80 speed 70 agility be more effective for a free safety? I know with a CB you'd be looking at the latter, but I'm not sure with a FS, because you tend to have more open ground to cover in a relatively straight line. The biggest concern would obviously be the acceleration (to hit top speed) but I don't know if that extra 10 agility worth of acceleration is better than the 10 speed worth of top speed, which I assume would curve the acceleration proportionally. Any thoughts?

Righto, I was guessing as much but I figured I'd check around for more opinions, thanks

I disagree. 80 speed, 70 agility is better because you get up to speed faster and can maneuver more easily. I've see guys with a 30 pt spread completely miss the play because they couldn't turn quick enough.

A 30 point spread is a big deal if it's 60/30 or something like that... but at 90/60 you're more than okay.

I definitely would take 80/70, personally. Perhaps 90/60 for a FS, but I don't think a SS needs that 90 speed. The higher agility lends itself to crisper changes in direction, and last second adjustments to getting in the way of a ball.

I'd sign the 80/70 guy over the 90/60 in a heartbeat, is what I'm trying to say

Which is fine, because the 90/60 guy probably goes to a AAA or Pro team, anyways.

Lol, too true! In reality both guys would reject my offer

I'm in USA Pro

The question becomes whether you'd favour short/medium coverage (higher agility) or Cover 1 chaser, I guess. Since I'm seeing more of the latter I'll probably go with the speed, too many 90-100 speed WRs and RBs and like 80 speed TEs in this league *sigh*

80/70- you are a strong safety, you need to be able to tackle effectively.

Free safety. Concerns being acceleration (hitting top speed, whether the 90 speed would actually be utilized effectively) and stopping without doing a truck-like arc (run to WR from zone and not overshoot too badly). With 80/65 I've noticed I haven't really seemed to struggle with stop-and-go and directional adjustment, but if I bump down the agility and spike the speed up, may I would start having problems?

As is, with 80 I'm not really being able to run anyone down, though, so once someone gets past me it's a touchdown, and that's what bothers me the most.

This is the key right here. As a safety, you're the last man back, and you want to be able to make that tackle. 90/60 is the answer. And don't forget what a difference some extra Change Direction can make.
