Another week in the books. Here's my quickly thrown together rankings to whet your appetite for FDC's superior coverage tomorrow
1 (2) London Monarchs (4-0)
Well the Game of the Week certainly lived up to its billing with a victory for the Monarchs in a shootout against Black Watch. The tone was set early with the Monarchs scoring on their opening possession, while Black Watch tied the scores up again on their first play from scrimmage. London scored points on 8 out of their 10 posessions, racking up over 600 yards which was enough to see off the threat of their opposition. Yet another tough game up next against Woodridge who they have failed to beat in all 5 of their previous matchups.
2 (1) Black Watch (3-1)
If it wasn't already confirmed by their already impressive start to the season, Black Watch are for real this season. Despite their loss, they'll come away with their heads held high in a game where defenses were seemingly AWOL. BW had to recover from shipping 23 points in the 2nd quarter and came up short in a pulsating game which saw the two teams combine for over 1100 yards and 96 points. They'll hope to continue their impressive debut WEPL season with a victory against Chicago Rocks next.
3 (3) Woodridge Lumberjacks (3-1)
Woodridge moves to 3-1 with a comfortable victory over LWCD. Despite a wobbly performance from QB, Marlo Stanfield, a stellar peformance from their two backs Joseph Ngo and Dan Odell (2 TD's each), coupled with a nice showing from the defense, led to a blowout victory. They face the Monarchs in next week's Game of the Week in which history is on their side.
4 (4) Paris Philarmonic (3-1)
Paris followed up last week's win with victory over WEPL newbies, Red Bandits. We're starting to see a return to the defense that did so well last season after forcing 4 turnovers, and Paris should extend their streak against Carthage who they face next.
5 (6) Wembley Warriors (3-1)
The Warriors overcame a resilient Stuttgart side to record their 3rd straight win. Despite only completing 7 passes, the Warriors were able to just about control the clock with their run game, with Stuttgart's comeback falling just short. The Warriors have a 6-game stretch coming up after which they could feasibly be 9-1. If they make the right adjustments on offense and continue to improve on defense they could see themselves earning a high seeding in the playoffs.
6 (9) London Minotaurs (3-1)
The Minotaurs rise in this week's ranking, moving up 3 places after victory over struggling Berlin. London has quietly moved to 3-1 off the back of an opportunistic defense and the impressive running of Run All Ova U Addai, who leads the Alpha rushing TD charts. They have a difficult few games coming up and will be looking to make a statement with victory over one of Alpha's other early season high flyers.
7 (8) Stuttgart Nighthawks (2-2)
Despite their loss against Wembley, Stuttgart moves up a place as they continue to show improvement. With a little bit of luck, they may well have been 4-0 at this point, but they'll fancy their chances of grabbing a playoff place after their performances up to this point. They face FTA in one of the week's more interesting matchups next.
8 (12) Fightin' Texas Aggies (1-3)
FTA are the highest climbers in this weeks ranking, climbing 4 places after victory over the Mercs. Much fancied in pre-season, FTA had made a shocking start to the year. We finally got a chance to see what their offense is capable of this week as they ammassed over 550 yards. They have not had a kind schedule to start their season at all but they could very well turn their season around in the next 7 or so games.
9 (5) Dinas Mawddwy Red Bandits (2-2)
10 (11) Chicago Rocks (2-2)
11 (7) E-City Mercenaries (1-3)
12 (10) Lake Charles Who Dats (1-3)
13 (13) Berlin Blitzkrieg (0-4)
14 (14) Aberdeen Wrecking Crew (1-3)
15 (15) Carthage Army of Darkness (0-4)
16 (16) Toledo Swords (0-4)
