Has anybody noticed any of them actually working better than a comparable 'normal' AI set-up?

And is there a better guide to them somewhere, or an old thread breaking them down?

I'm not really seeing the point of them, so I was wondering if I'm just missing something.

Pre-designed defensive plays have been flat out TERRIBLE when I've tried them.

Engage Eight 100% all game every game. Only way to roll.

On some of the game replays I've watched, that seems to be the defAI of choice. Certainly makes the planning aspect of the Defensive Coordinator easy. Of course, it makes the planning aspect of the opposing Offensive Coordinator easy too.

Laziness => It's the GLB way!

Pre Sets have a MASSIVE advantage to them, the ability to dictate the Outside contain is invaluable and needs to be updated as a normal Def option.

Also on DB blitz packages the DB will cheat up to the line, and therefore much more likely to get pressure.

Would never think of ONLY using presets though, far too many gaps.

Yeah. Some flaws with that pathing. lol

But, even if the blocking pathing is good, the result on that play is that it's forced inside.

I ran some DE contain and Engage Eight in a scrimmage last night.

The DE contain seems to be easily made useless by a good TE, so runs to the right work like normal.

The Engage Eight is obviously a run-stopping beast, but got burnt a few times by WR passes (as it should).

Has anybody got an example of the linebacker contain?

Really? I definitely haven't seen any difference with that. Got an example?

I have a few Pre-designed plays mixed in with the rest of my plays.

LB contain works very well against teams that tend to run pitches and off-tackle hand-offs from the I-form (as does the DE contain). There is no way to do something like that using the non-presets. I've also found the presets to be more effective against 3 and 5 WR sets. The rule of thumb for the customs seemed to be to use one extra CB and go to a cover 1 or cover 0 which left a lot of holes. You can cut down on that with the presets and bring an extra LB on pass rush or in contain and you get a lot more consistent against the run and the pass.

On the other hand, for unusual blitz packages there are only 1 or 2 of the presets that are good.

I generally use about 80% presets and 20% custom. Been working well for us.

Frankly it's also easier to maintain. If you forget what a play is just click the pictures instead of parsing all the drop-downs.

Edit: of all the pre-sets I probably use engage-eight the least. Any decent OC can shred that defense with pitches, screens, and crossing routes.

When you expand your output box, right under where you can give a name to the output, is "specific pre-designed play". Click the link, it'll give you a small playbook of plays, just click the picture for it to be set.
