FAT DADDY CA$H’S CORNER: Week 3!

The big news in WEPL occurred just hours before press time. The perennial playoff and title contender, Toledo Swords, announced to the league they would be closing shop by Sunday. Once again the league loses a great team and highly respected owner.

Over the past three seasons the WEPL has lost over seven clubs and owners, two of them folding in mid season. It’s a tough blow for a league that is widely considered one of the GLB elite. During this past off-season, the rest of the league did an excellent job of keeping the homegrown talent in WEPL and thus far every new club in both Alpha and Zeta have accorded themselves admirably. The competition level remains high but the league can simply not afford to lose any more clubs and hope to maintain its edge.

While we wish the Swords nothing but the best and realize that other responsibilities inevitably get in the way, it’s sad to see yet another great team fold up its tents.

Week 2 Rewind

Week 2 had some great games and plenty of nail-biting conclusions as Conference play finally kicked off. In some cases the wins and loses sorted out the pretenders from the contenders – in others (Alpha) it just made a mess of things.

Korb Destroyers 31 – Rivals Mainboard Pimps 27

The much-anticipated showdown between Zeta’s top two teams more than lived up to the billing. As many expected, the game featured a fantastic rushing game by both sides and some big plays by two opportunistic defenses.

A back and forth first half saw the Pimps commit two costly turnovers thanks to the hard hitting Korb linebackers and a shaky start by Pimp QB Pohl. Despite the initial setbacks and an early deficit, the Pimps hung tough and managed to tie the game at 10 a piece with 2:10 seconds left in the first half.

After a great stand by the Pimp D, it looked as if the Pimps would get the ball back with just enough ticks on the clock to get into FG range. But Korb special teamer Paris Nautresweet had other plans as he forced a key fumble that was returned for a momentum changing score:

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=212382&pbp_id=2144964

The Pimps did manage a huge 61-yard FG with just ticks remaining in the first half to cut the score to 17-13. But on the opening series of the second half, Korb orchestrated a gorgeous 11 play, nearly 7-minute drive that was capped off a 26-yard TD pass from Quinn to newly acquired WR Demetrius Boyd:

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=212382&pbp_id=2146016

The score was one of only 9 passes attempted by Korb and firmly put momentum on the Korb sideline. While the Pimps were still in it for the rest of the game, the 11-point lead was enough cushion to allow Korb to stick to their ground game and chew up the clock.

In total, Korb shredded the Pimps’ defense to the tune of 313 rushing yards on 50 carries. The success on the ground and on the scoreboard forced the Pimps to turn to QB Pohl who continued his shaky start to the regular season. The pro-bowl QB was mediocre, completing 11 of 21 passes for 117 yards with 1 TD and 1 huge first half INT.

While Korb will ride this wave of momentum into their next game against the tough Longnecks, the Pimps will have to wait a bit longer to get the taste out of their mouths against good competition as Porto is next on the schedule. There’s no shortage of confidence in the Pimp locker room, but for now there’s a new top dog in Zeta. And I can’t wait for the rematch.

Paris Philharmonic 33 – Stuttgart Nighthawks 30

You can tell a lot about a team by how they respond to adversity. After two miserable pre-season loses and a 58-0 humiliation in Week 1, Paris was clearly a team on the ropes as they faced the 1-0 Nighthawks at home. Out to prove that their WEPL championship was not a fluke, Paris needed a win badly.

In the early going it did not look like fate was on Paris’ side as Stuttgart held a 13-10 lead for much of the first half. The outlook grew considerably dimmer when WR Illvin Porifors fumbled late in the half after a jarring hit by Nighthawk CB Antwan Jackson:

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=212273&pbp_id=2144082

Three plays later, the Nighthawks cashed that turnover in on a short TD pass, giving them a 20-10 lead heading into half.

But Paris fought back, chipping in 2 FGs in the third quarter and cutting the deficit to 23-16. Late in the 3rd, Paris mounted a terrific drive, which brought them all the way to the Nighthawk 2 yard-line when once again the rug was pulled from under them. CB Jovanni Chappel jumped a Reggie 3 Forever route and picked off Tarkenton’s pass, returning it 102 yards for a seemingly back-breaking score:

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=212273&pbp_id=2146567

Things only got worse on the proceeding kickoff when Paris fumbled again, giving the Nighthawks a chance to go for the kill already up 30-16. But the Paris Defense stiffened and just two plays later forced a fumble of their own, setting up the first big play for the Philharmonic offense:

Flush with new momentum, the Paris D quickly forced another fumble, which Brandon Laphroaig cashed into 7 point with just 2:08 remaining. Suddenly the game was tied 30-30.

Stuttgart had a chance to win it with 1:38 left, but K Andy McDermit’s 59-yard field goal attempt was no good – giving Paris a chance. In just 8 plays, Paris drove the ball down to Stuttgart’s 30-yard line and K Sinai Montano booted a 47-yarder home to win the game and perhaps save Paris’s season.

Zeta Power Rankings: Week 3

1. Korb Destroyers
Last Week: 2 (+1)
The win over the Pimps was impressive in nearly every phase. Racking up 310 yards on the ground against one of WEPL’s top defenses is astounding – almost as astounding as putting up 31 points with just 9 pass attempts. Korb doesn’t have time to rest on their laurels though as they head into PPP next week.

2. Rivals Mainboard Pimps
Last Week: 1 (-1)
Can’t drop them too far. They played tough against Korb while Stockholm hasn’t played anyone yet. With Porto up next the Pimps will get a chance to pad their stats and hopefully break QB Pohl out of his early season funk.

3. Stockholm Meatballs
Last Week: 3
They did what they were supposed to against Porto but now the real season begins as the red-hot Roughnecks ride into town. It will be the first real test for the new look Meatball defense while Mal Brown and company will try their best to keep the Smiths on the sidelines.

4. Rotterdam Roughnecks
Last Wee: 5 (+1)
The Roughnecks’ win over Antwerp was not unexpected – but the manner in which they won certainly was. The offense dominated the time of possession, running 41 minutes off the clock with 6 drives of 10 plays or longer, effectively protecting their own suspect defense and keeping the Annihilators in mothballs.

5. Multiple Scorgasms
Last Week: 6 (+1)
The big win over the Aggies vaults the Scorgasms over the Longnecks in this week’s rankings. However, the Scorgasms can’t continue to give up close to 500 yards on defense and expect to keep winning.

6. PPP Longnecks
Last Week: 4 (-2)
Slipping two spots despite winning has more to do with how good Rotterdam has looked and the quality of wins Multiple has over the Longnecks. Still, the Longnecks D looked great against Paris, holding the normally formidable rushing attack to -11 yards is no easy feat. The match-up with Korb will go a long ways towards proving whether PPP has or has not arrived as an elite team in Zeta.

7. Berlin Ballers
Last Week: 9 (+2)
Despite giving up 6 sacks and punting 7 times, the Ballers still managed to make their showdown with Lyon a relatively one-sided affair. Displaying a balanced attack that netted 423 yards, the Ballers scored 17 unanswered points in a 4th quarter comeback to distance themselves slightly from the rest of the rookie Zeta teams.

8. Reykjavik Aggies
Last Week: 7 (-1)
Man the Aggies want that last game back. Despite putting up huge offensive numbers, 5 turnovers cost them a chance to knock off the Scorgasms and assert themselves as a top 5 team. Still, at the rate this offense is moving the ball, they should be able to get to 5-1 before their showdown with Korb.

9. Antwerp Annihilators
Last Week: 8 (-1)
A disappointing loss drops them one spot in the rankings. The Antwerp defense looked helpless at times and was unable to get off the field on 3rd downs. The offense moved the ball well when given an opportunity but can’t do it all by themselves. With the resurgent passing attack of the Scorgasms on tap, the defense will need to rebound quickly from their ugly display.

10. Black Forest Mercenaries
Last Week: 13 (+3)
Black Forest got off the schnide by beating up on a seemingly overmatched Patriot team. It’s difficult to gain much insight about BFM from this win. While they put up 537 yards of offense, the Patriots aren’t exactly known for their great defense. On the other side of the ball the Mercs improved from last week and held the Pats in check for much of the game. With their soft starting schedule, it may be a few weeks before we know how good the Mercs really are.

11.Lyon Dynasty
Last Week: 10 (-1)
Lyon held the lead against the Ballers for nearly 3 quarters before Berlin unleashed a 17- point 4th quarter to seal the game. Lyon managed to get to the QB 6 times but overall the defense was largely ineffective, surrendering over 423 yards. They’ll get a chance to get right against the Pats.

12. Sevilla Naranjas
Last Week: 14 (+2)
Sevilla survived a late Ice & Fire rally to hold onto their shootout victory. The offense looked sharp with 466 yards in a balanced attack but also committed 3 turnovers in what was an ugly game at times. Still, the win gives the Naranjas a boost heading into Reykjavik.

13. ATOIAF
Last Week: 11 (-2)
A tough loss could have been even uglier had it not been for a great 4th quarter rally by ATOIAF. Still, the defense is going to have to plug some holes quick with Black Forest up next.

14. Paris Musketeers
Last Week: 12 (-2)
I’ll say it again. Paris won’t win as long as QB Christian Soldier is the starting QB. So far on the year the quarterback has a 35.3 QB Rating, 305 yards, 1 TD and 6 INTS (including 3 pick-sixes). Time to turn the page.

15. UK Patriots
Last Week: 15
I had higher hopes than some for the Patriots this season. I expected big things from their passing attack and for them to pull off a few upsets with their high-flying attack. But after two ugly losses it’s becoming clear they just don’t have the horses to compete in Zeta this season.

16. Porto Reconquistas
Last Week: 16
Porto will be here all year folks … be sure to tip your waitress and try the veal!

Alpha Power Rankings: Week 1

1. London Monarchs
Last Week: 1
London’s offense once again dominated, racking up 535 yards and scoring over 50 points for the second straight week. The only concern is the defense which didn’t look as sharp against Berlin. They have time to correct it though before the Black Watch game in Week 4.

2. Black Watch
Last Week: 2
Black Watch took care of business and then some with their 63-20 pounding of Lake Charles. The D was impressive, pulling in 6 INTs and cashing in 2 TDs. With the win, the Black Watch should be 3-0 heading into a huge game against London in two weeks.

3. Woodridge Lumberjacks
Last Week: 3
Woodridge bounced back from their opening week upset and got back to basics against the Aggies. With 351 yards on the ground, the Lumberjacks took control early and never looked back. Berlin is on deck as the Lumberjacks try to get above .500.

4. Paris Philharmonic
Last Week: 8 (+4)
Paris avoided a disastrous 0-2 start thanks to Kicker Sinai Montano’s 47-yard field goal with just 12 ticks left on the clock. The kick capped a 17-point 4th quarter flurry and quite possibly saved Paris’ season. With three winnable games up next, the Philharmonic have a chance to get very healthy very fast.

5. Fightin’ Texas Aggies
Last Week: 4 (-1)
Despite the loss to Woodridge, the Aggies don’t drop all that much thanks to a spattering of weak performances from the other top teams in Alpha. The Aggies’ offense is going to score a lot of points this season, they just need to find a way to stop someone as well.

6. E-City Mercenaries
Last Week: 9 (+3)
Another big jump for the Mercs who relied on their powerful rushing attack to edge out Toledo last week. The defense was in top form as they forced 2 INTs and sacked the quarterback 3 times. A big game against Wembley is up next.

7. Stuttgart Nighthawks
Last Week: 7
Stuttgart played Paris closer than most expected – hence their stability at the number 7 spot. Close won’t be good enough this week against the struggling Swords. A win would be a huge boon to Stuttgart’s playoff dreams as the schedule only gets more difficult down the line. (*Note: written before the Swords’ announcement)

8. Wembley Warriors
Last Week: 12 (+4)
The Warriors make the biggest jump of the week from 12 to 8 thanks to their second half comeback against the Minotaurs. The Wembley defense played out of their minds, racking up 6 sacks and 3 INTS and forcing 3 fumbles. With the Mercs up next, Wembley is going to need to find a way to generate more offense if they hope to keep moving up in these rankings.

9. London Minotaurs
Last Week: 5 (-4)
London’s first taste of WEPL play didn’t go as well as they hoped as they were unable to hold onto their lead against the Warriors. A sloppy game on the offensive side of the ball enabled the Warriors to stay in the game and eventually steal it. If the Minotaurs make the same mistakes next week against the high voltage Aggie offense, it could get really ugly.

10. Toledo Swords
Last Week: 10
The Swords are struggling at 0-2 but hold on to the 10th spot in large part due to the quality of the rest of the field. They have lost both games by a combined score of 4 – meaning they are close to turning it around but also as frustrated as a virgin on prom night who just found out his date’s got mono. A big game against the Nighthawks may well define their playoff hopes this season. (*This was done prior to the Swords folding … out of respect, I’ll keep it the same for this week).

11. Lake Charles Who Dats
Last Week: 6 (-5)
The Power Rankings giveth and taketh away. One week removed from making a 5-point jump, the Who Dats fall right back to 11 thanks to a horrendous performance against the Black Watch. With the Monarchs and Woodridge up next, it’s about to get a whole lot worse before it gets better.

12. Dinas Mawddwy Red Bandits
Last Week: 14 (+2)
They won so they have to move up! While it’s true the win came at the expense of Carthage, they still are 1-1 and deserve to be higher than Berlin and AWC … for this week at least. With Chicago on deck, the Bandits could be 2-1 heading into Paris.

13. Chicago Rocks
Last Week: 15 (+2)
Chicago got the bad taste out of their mouths from the PPP game by knocking off Aberdeen. While the win was not pretty (10 sacks, 7 punts and a fumble), Chicago pulled even to 1-1 and picked up a badly needed win. A showdown with the Red Bandits followed by a walk against Carthage sets Chicago up nicely for a 3 game win streak if they can find a way to protect their quarterback a bit better.

14. Berlin Blitzkrieg
Last Week: 11 (-3)
Berlin got their offense going against the Monarchs as they piled up 451 yards and 33 points. Unfortunately 17 of those points came in the 4th quarter when the game was well out of reach. Something is just wrong with the Blitz this season, while an 0-2 start isn’t the end of the world considering who they have played, with Woodridge, London and E-City on deck they are staring down the barrel of a cataclysmic 0-5 start.

15. Aberdeen Wrecking Crew
Last Week: 13 (-2)
Perhaps no team has been as frustrating for me this season as Aberdeen. Flush with all sorts of new talent, I’m still convinced they will make a strong playoff push. But so far this year they have looked lost. Despite racking up 10 sacks on Chicago, the Wrecking Crew couldn’t hold onto their 10-point lead.

16. Carthage Army of Darkness
Last Week: 16
The good news is that Carthage defends the pass as well as they defend the run. That’s also the bad news.

Week 3 Previews

Korb Destroyers (2-0) at PPP Longnecks (2-0)

Breakdown: Korb doesn’t get to rest long after their victory over the Pimps. The Longnecks have been playing well and feature a ferocious run defense of their own which could give Korb’s trio of HBs headaches all day long.

Korb was simply fantastic in their win against the Pimps. It was an old school, 1920s style game plan with little passing and a lot of hard-nosed running. The sledding will be a bit tougher this week against the deeper and larger Longneck front seven which limited the great Nolan Akers’ led Paris attack to negative yardage a week ago. Korb will have to employ a more balanced attack to keep the Longnecks honest and take shots at the underrated PPP secondary.

The Longnecks have been recharged offensively with the emergence of starting QB Levi Jackson and the addition of new/old HB Billy Bob Roll Over’em. With the new additions, HB Jimmy Slasher – a virtual one-man offense last season – has been slow out of the gates, racking up just 1 TD in the first two games. Against Korb’s defense, the Longnecks are going to need their superstar to play like one.

Prediction: This is a great test for the Longnecks who have slowly worked their way up towards the cream of Zeta. After a solid rookie season they are poised for a deep playoff run – at least on paper. This week they have to show the rest of the league they are legit and not just paper tigers. I tend to think the Longnecks are going to have a good year, but I can’t see them pulling this one off or scoring enough points on that great Korb defense. Korb wins 31-13.

Antwerp Annihilators (1-1) at Multiple Scorgasms (2-0)

Breakdown: After a poor defensive effort against the Roughnecks, Antwerp has to face another explosive offensive team as James McMahon and the 2-0 are ready to jump to 3-0. The Annihilators on the other hand, are ready to notch their first win over a veteran Zeta club.

Multiple has won both its first games by the score of 30-27. Despite the close score, the Scorgasms have controlled both games with their improved defense feasting on turnovers and a surprisingly balanced offensive attack. Most (including me) expected Multiple to be a high-flying attack this season especially after the off-season signing of McMahon. But thus far, the Scorgasms have been incredibly balanced, employing a potent rushing attack and a controlled passing attack. After watching the long, time consuming drives that the Roughnecks employed to thwart Antwerp, Multiple might be gunning for a similar strategy. Key to pulling it off will be to continue to keep the turnovers down and the defensive pressure up.

Antwerp’s question marks do not revolve around the offensive side of the ball. Even in their lopsided loss to Rotterdam, they were able to move the ball effectively and only punted twice. The Annihilator defense just couldn’t get off the field. This week the pressure will be on the defense to shore up the holes and make some plays. It starts by shutting down the Multiple running attack and forcing them to be one-dimensional.

Prediction: This is a tough game to call as I think both teams are pretty close as far as talent goes. Still, something has to be said for how consistent the Scorgasms’ offense has been this season. Multiple wins another close one, 30-29.

Wembley Warriors (1-1) at E-City Mercenaries (1-1)

Breakdown: With both clubs at 1-1, this week’s showdown will go a long ways towards sorting out the cluttered middle of the Alpha rankings. Both teams rebounded from tough Week 1 loses with impressive outings in Week 2.

E-City relied solely on their rushing game to edge out the Swords in Week 2. With 238 yards on 39 carries, the Mecs’ O-Line carved up Toledo’s front seven. The rushing lanes won’t be as open this week against a much tougher Wembley rushing defense. If the Mercs are going to win, they’re going to need to pass the ball for more than 70 yards. Defensively, the Mercs have to find a way to generate more turnovers and give their offense more opportunities.

The Warriors’ defense rebounded nicely after getting trounced by the Aggies in Week 1. But the question remains: which Warrior defense was the real Warrior defense? Was it the club that held the Minotaurs to under 270 yards? Or was it the club that allowed the Aggies to amass over 650? If the Warriors have a shot, they’re going to have to find a way to hold the Mercs to under 4 yards per carry as well as find a soft spot to exploit in the Mercs’ defensive secondary.

Prediction: This game is going to boil down to who stops the run better. Both teams are close as far as talent and it should be close. Still, my money is on the Warriors 28-24.

Game of the Week: Zeta

Rotterdam Roughnecks (2-0) at Stockholm Meatballs (2-0)

Breakdown: This great early season match-up will undoubtedly shake up the top of the Zeta power rankings as two of the top teams go head to head. For Rotterdam it’s a chance to notch their first win against Stockholm and continue their hot start to the season. For the Meatballs, it’s their first shot to prove last season’s Number 1 seed was not a fluke.

Rotterdam was simply brilliant last week against Antwerp as the Roughneck offense displayed balance and poise while chewing up 40 minutes in change off the clock. The last time the Roughnecks faced the Meatballs, the game turned into an uncharacteristic shootout – something that normally would play into the Roughnecks’ hands. This time around the ‘Necks have a new passion for the run game and will use that to try to keep the Meatballs off balance. Defensively, the Longnecks still have a lot to prove. They have been suspect all year and will be tested by Mal Brown and the new weapons on the Stockholm sideline. How well the defense stands up will go a long ways towards deciding this game.

For the Meatballs, they know that a repeat of last year’s shootout would inevitably be a bad thing. No matter how much they have improved offensively, the Roughnecks’ passing attack is still capable of scoring points at a higher rate than the Meat. Thus, the game plan won’t surprise anyone as Stockholm will lean on Brown and Glow and their massive O-Line to wear down the thin Roughneck front seven. But this game will be won or loss by the Meatball defense which has had a brilliant start to the season. If they can continue their inspired play, they’ll give the Smiths some headaches. But if they can’t get off the field, it will be a long day in Stockholm.

Prediction: Once again I’m too biased to make a totally impartial pick here. It’s tough to beat a team 3 times in a row, thus the Roughnecks have the law of probability on their side. Still, the Meatballs have improved just enough this year and I think they will take another close one. Meatballs win, 33-28.

Game of the Week: Alpha

Fightin’ Texas Aggies (0-2) at London Minotaurs (1-1)

Breakdown: Two of my pre-season playoff contenders find themselves slugging it out in what could be a make or break game for both. The Aggies are still trying to get their first win after falling short against Woodridge last week. The Minotaurs are also looking for their first (quality) win and a chance to prove they belong in WEPL.

The Aggies have shown they have no problem moving the football on anyone. They have had a problem converting some of their drives into touchdowns however. Texas will need a big game from their stud QB and will look to take shots on the London secondary that is still largely an unknown commodity. If Texas can convert more of their red zone opportunities this week, they could rack up an early lead. On defense, the Aggies front seven have to be drooling after watching Wembley pile up 6 sacks on the Minotaurs last week. The pressure forced 3 INTs and 3 fumbles – stats the Aggies hope to repeat.

For the Minotaurs it’s no secret they need to protect better. Whether that means leaving in their HBs to block more or calling shorter routes, they simply must find a way to keep Seneca Wallace upright this week. Defensively, London will be tested by the explosive Aggie attack. They must win the turnover battle and keep the Aggies one dimensional if they are going to pull this one out.

Prediction: This should be a fun game to watch and will undoubtedly tell us much about London’s prospects this season. I still think London has a chance to make a playoff push, despite how they looked against Wembley. But I’m going with the Aggies this week. Aggies win 48-20.

Rest of the Week 3 Predictions
Last Week: 12-4
Season Total: 24-8

Black Watch (2-0) at Army of Darkness (0-2): Black Watch wins 63-0.

Who Dats (1-1) at London Monarchs (2-0): Monarchs win 51-22.

Paris Philharmonic (1-1) at Aberdeen (0-2): Paris wins 30-24.

Berlin Blitz (0-2) at Woodridge Lumberjacks (1-1): Woodridge wins 48-23.

Chicago Rocks (1-1) at Dinas Red Bandits (1-1): Chicago wins 20-19.

Paris Musketeers (0-2) at Berlin Ballers (2-0): Berlin wins 30-10.

Servilla Naranjas (1-1) at Reykjavik Aggies (1-0): Aggies win 48-20.

Porto (0-2) at Rivals Mainboard Pimps (1-1) : Pimps win … by a lot.

Black Forest Mercenaries (1-1) at ATOIAF (1-0): BMF Wins 33-24.

Lyon Dynasty (1-1) at UK Patriots (0-1): London wins 48-30.

Another Perspective

Larkis has compiled his Alpha and Zeta rankings as a way to counterbalance my own insanity.

[Alpha Power Rankings

1. London Monarchs (Last Power Ranking, #1)
Still the kings of Alpha, however look like they have a tough few weeks ahead with the Who Dats, Lumberjacks and Black Watch. Their secondary is freakish and with a player like Jon Horton to pass to, good luck stopping them.

2. Black Watch (Last Power Ranking, #2)
Humiliated a Lake Charles with momentum coming into this round. With a list of defensive playmakers and offensive weapons for every occasion, this team could come close to being unbeatable.

3. Woodridge Lumberjacks (Last Power Ranking, #4)
A promising victory over Fightin’ Texas Aggies has put this team back in the spotlight. A few more victories and they’ll soon be back to being the best in Alpha.

4. Chicago Rocks (Last Power Ranking, #3)
This team only won with a small margin against Aberdeen, so I wouldn’t exactly say they are setting Alpha on fire. However with their current record, I struggle to place them lower than forth.

5. Paris Philharmonic (Last Power Ranking, #6)
Made a recovery from their horrific loss but wouldn’t be this high if they weren’t reigning WEPL champions. If they start losing a few more, people will forget how good they use to be.

6. Dinas Mawddwy Red Bandits (Last Power Ranking, #13)
They were beaten in the interconference round by arguably one of the greatest teams ever assembled in WEPL. Made a swift recovery against Carthage and currently deserve to be 6th.

7. Wembley Warriors (Last Power Rankings, #14)
I am probably their harshest critic but they beat a team I ranked highly. A few more promising victories and perhaps they could make the playoffs.

8. Stuttgart Nighthawks (Last Power Ranking, #9)
Just lost against the reigning WEPL champions. Sure, the champions are not performing at their best, but it was still a promising display and shows potential for the future.

9. London Minotaurs (Last Power Ranking, #8)
They just barely lost to an improving Warriors side. However they have the ability to turn it around and mount a promising campaign to the playoffs.

10. Fightin’ Texas Aggies (Last Power Ranking, #5)
One loss is a fluke, two losses is unlucky. A real test will emerge when they play the Minotaurs. If they lose here, it may make a Cinderella story later on in the season.
11 Aberdeen Wrecking Crew (Last Power Ranking, #12)
Same as above, they had two close losses against two quality teams. However I still rate them lowly as I don’t believe they have the potential to be a threat this early in the season. If they improve their tactics slightly, maybe they can win a few in a row and make the playoffs.

12 E-City Mercenaries (Last Power Ranking, #10)
They just barely beaten a demoralized (and now non-existent) Toledo side. However I can’t place them any lower as they are a quality side when compared with the rest. However a few more pathetic displays and they will be 14th or 15th.

13. Lake Charles Who’s Dats (Last Power Ranking, #7)
One of the promising teams from last round, they just blew everything they had against Black Watch. I would love to know what goes on behind close doors here because you never have a clue what the Who’s Dats are going to do next.

14. Berlin Blitzkrieg (Last Power ranking, #15)
Once considered one of the weaker sides in WEPL, the team may only be salvaged if they manage a win against Carthage half way through the season or if another side bites the dust. I have no clue how this team sunk this low.

15. Carthage Army of Darkness (Last Power Ranking, #16)
Carthage are currently in a carnage, failing to put on big offensive numbers and not being able to do anything. Seems this team was just an overachieving AAA team.

16. Toledo Swords (Last Power Ranking, #11)
Given Up – Sad Sad Story, a real tearjerker but I can’t place a team that doesn’t have the will to perform anymore any higher.

Zeta Power Rankings
(Sorry, no reasons given, real life commitments J )

1. Korb Destroyers
2. Stockholm Meatballs
3. Rotterdam Roughnecks
4. Berlin Ballers
5. Rivals Mainboard Pimps
6. PPP Longnecks
7. Multiple Scorgasms
8. Antwerp Annihilators
9. Reykjavík Aggies
10. Lyon Dynasty
11. Sevilla Naranjas
12. Black Forest Mercenaries
13. A Team of Ice and Fire
14. UK Patriots
15. Paris Musketeers
16. Porto Reconquistas

funny how the written descriptions of the plays are more interesting then the replay! That is the beauty of GLB I guess.

Thanks for the work FDC/Larkis I must say it is fun to be ranked higher than the rocks, we have lived in their shadows since Season 2!
