I have a level 38 HB, and I recently picked up a piece of advanced equip that gives me +1 to Quick Cut. I was thinking that I'd slowly upgrade it by burning my 8 bonus tokens per upgrade until I could replace my +5 agility equipment piece. Now I'm starting to wonder if I would be better served just cashing in those bonus tokens, every time I got 4 of them, to get 1 more SP.

I'd love to hear some other opinions about what I should do.

I don't think AE's for Higher Level Players Is Worth It!

The equipment you mention is not worth much.

Depending on the piece, yes.

I got a +2 vision, +1 power through SA for my elusive/balanced back that I'm working on upgrading.

So, I sold my +1 Quick Cut piece, since nobody seemed to think it was worth upgrading. I was pleased to see that I got my bonus tokens back that I'd already spent on it. So now I'm planning on just using them to get a +5 boost in big games and to use the SP's I get to pump up my strength. Thanks for the feedback.

Well let's say you have 4 in quick cut naturally and you roll a +1 quick cut.

Over the course of a season you could add 4 skill points, but if you used the 16 bonus tokens to upgrade your advanced AE to +2 quick cut the value of that upgrade is 7 skill points, the cost it would take you to upgrade it with skill points. 7>4.

Or if you are a high level player and you have 7 in shutdown coverage for example and you upgraded it twice in one season. The value of those 2 upgrades is 9 skill points, the cost it would take to upgrade it twice, or you could have turned those bonus tokens in for 4 skill points. 9>4. This doesn't even take into account the skill points you might have had to place in smooth operator, etc to reach the shutdown corner SA.

Advanced equipment is actually far more valuable for a higher level player since you will have SA's at higher value than a lower level player.

The value of the piece of advanced equip is greatest when it is near or at the end of your focused SA tree.

I dont even bother saving for advanced equipment with my HB. I just use +5 boost for our big games

But the upgrades don't work like that, do they?. If my quick cut +1 could be upgraded to quick cut +2, +3, etc... then I probably would have kept upgrading, but it looks like the Quick Cut part stays at +1 forever, and the upgrades just add points onto whatever other parameter you choose (i.e. speed, agility, etc...). If I'm wrong about that, let me know; I've never developed a piece of AE before.

I was under the impression that SA's were added to every other upgrade? Every 2nd, 4th, 6th, etc?

That stinks. I should have probably kept that +1 Quick Cut then, eh?
Oh well...live and learn.

The "worth it" AEs:

%Break chance (>=5) - By the 50k upgrade you're looking at >=11% break. Tyvm.

%chance break/fake (<5), +stat (1 or 2) - Not as good as ^, but still solid.

SA, +stat (1 or 2) - No Brainer

+stat (2 or 3) - If nothing you see is better, snag one. You get the tokens back when you upgrade
