Can someone enlighten me as to why my LBs always back up from the line of scrimmage after the snap like this:

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=246279&pbp_id=1881423

Play call here is:
4-3, Cover 1, Man to Man, Short
Run Focus, No Shift
No Blitzer

Any insight would be much appreciated as this is killing our ability to stop the run effectively.

What are your personal tactics set on, if it is pass then his first step will be back.

Hmmm, the LBs tactics are SUPPOSED to be set to run... I guess I'll have to have a talk with some of our guys about that. So if their tactics were set to balanced they would take no step at the snap and if their tactics are run they'll always take a step forward at the snap?

I don't know what's up with the LB's this season. Example: I will run a 4-3 weak said shift. TE lines up on the right, and I will blitz the ROLB. But he always drops into coverage and the LOLB seem to blitz. Same happend on a 3-3-5 weak side shift ROLB blitz.

Yeah there have been some questions about what is happening with the LB I know that if you aren't set to run you won't blitz right away and also now you still look over the field. More vision I have heard causes you to react faster as well this year.

i too have noticed peculiar LB behaviour, can't quite put my finger on it but it doesn't have that intuitive feel about it unlike last season - maybe its just me

My brother and I have tested several different combinations last season to keep his LB from taking his first step backwards. Through all of the team and individual tactical combinations, the only time it worked was when he blitzed.

Yeah that is like a lot of real plays though. You sit read and then react which was why vision was supposed to make you react faster. Then you were off to the races as soon as your agility and speed kick in.

Only they're not sitting and reading, they're backing up. They do react to the run and start moving back forward as soon as the QB hands off to the HB, but as long as the ball is still in the QB's hands they're dropping back. So frustrating.

Interesting, thanks for the input.

I think bort made the LB do that because they would be otherwise too powerful. I remember reading a thread about it a long time ago. Sorry, I have no idea where the thread is and I am not going to look for them without a forum search engine.

Either they are dropping back (season 5 issue) or sitting duck for a few ticks. So frustrated.

When we set to run focus, we want them to get fooled on Pass and hit some gaps that open, man.

This has been the case forever and there are about 200 threads about it.
Unless they are blitzing, LBers will take a couple of steps back.
It is what it is.

Got it. New to GM and tactics so I'm trying to make sure I'm not screwing something up here. Thanks guys.
