What are you guys doing to stop the strong side run. Teams are averaging an incredible (and somewhat unrealistic) average when running to the strong side?

Is there something that someone is having success with?

You can PM me if you don't want to post anything up in public.

Last season goal line sets were the order of the day when the opponent ran out of the strong I, but now that there's passing plays in that formation it doesn't work so well.

I never did goal line, but stacking the box and playing cover 1 is usually a good idea. Brings that SS up to the line and once he recognizes its not a pass can get a good jump on bringing down the back early. Going more blitz heavy on that offensive set is good too.

We played mostly Cover-1 in our last game. So did our opponent. The score was 54 to 52, we both ran all over each other.

We have really struggled to stop the strong side runs this season. Last season we controlled it pretty well.

Our HB runs averaged 9.2 yards a carry. Theirs averaged 7.8 yards a carry. And we both played primarily a run defense.

How's your LE, strength wise? 70ish, I hope.

Good question.

He's a great LE. Great stats every season. He gets multiple trophies every season.

It's not just us having problems defending the strong side runs, most teams are really struggling.

I think thing may have change a little since last season. This year run blitzing is a lot more effective. Cover 0/1 Strong side shift with some blitzing LB or SS. Be careful with too much blitzing though, there is often a big price to pay if the team passes on you.

Well, he's a sack artist. You can't expect someone to be good against the run and get 66 sacks on the season.

True, but he still gets a LOT of tackles for a defensive lineman.

yea I'd say a high agility DE is gonna help against runs more than a pure strength DE who can't shed a block. You could always have that LB focus on the run. If he's a high speed medium vis/agi guy he'll drop back into coverage and not be a force against the run.
