I thought there was a way but when i checked the ai i couldn't figure it out. just seeking confirmation that you can't run them.

You can't specifically tell the receivers to run slants, but there are plays that include slant routes.

For example, if you select Shotgun -> Short -> WR, there is a play called Quick Slants.

Also:
Shotgun -> Medium -> WR
I Form -> Medium -> TE
