If I am creating an OLB with no special abilities is it even worth it to spend the flex points to upgrade one tree with the custom equiptment? Will any one SA advanced equiptment even have an impact?

umm. if you end up playing MLB yes it will. but you're definitely gonna want the +6.

It will make a difference, and you can upgrade the equipment to eventually give you more than +1 in an SA.
