NFL Network East vs. West Breakdown

Originally posted by NFL Total Access

Rich Eisen: So this debate has been going on for years: Which side is stronger guys, the east or the west? You first Steve.

Steve Mariucci: I'm going to start by looking at each conference and the teams they have. The west definitely has better teams and 10 of them are either .500 or above. The east however only 8 teams that are .500 or above. I mean just look at the East vs. West games 2 weeks ago. The west dominated the East 11-5. The west definitely has better teams.

Deion Sanders: Nah, man you got to look at the big picture. The west may be tougher within itself, but when you put the big dogs together, I have to hand it to the East. The East has something the west doesn't have - tough hardnosed football. If you look at the top defenses, 4 of the top 5 rushing defenses are in the East. The west definitely has some explosive offense and high scoring games and I'm interested to see what happens when teams like Death Valley or Bakersfield face any of the teams in the East, especially Brooklyn or the Hurricanes. Cybermagination would have been a good opponent too, but they got knocked out by another good defensive team, Columbus.

Marshall Faulk: Yeah, I'm going to have to agree with Deion here. When playoff time comes, defense is what it's about. Everybody says this, but defense wins championships. The East definitely has the better defenses and when the championship comes, the West is going to be wondering what did they just run into? The East has some top notch defenses and they are going to win it this year.

Rich Eisen: Big words there Marshall. We'll see how it goes. Thanks guys.

Scary Defenses Left in the Playoff Race!

The Hurricanes - Yards allow per game - 16.6

Brooklyn Bomb Squad - Yards allow per game - 24.9

Omaha Lightning - Yards allow per game - 34.3

Death Valley Vipers - Yards allow per game - 52.6

Oklahoma City Twisters - Yards allow per game - 64.8

Bakersfield Nanananas - Yards allow per game - 67.5

Will make for low scoring defensive, as Broadway Joe would say.."S-t-r-ugh-luh-ing"

I don't know where you get those numbers from, but I'm pretty sure Ghetto Heisman singlehandedly put up 5 times that amount of yards against us...

Shut the hell up about the damn east. You have a bunch of low rent teams over there. The west has more competition in it's middle finger than you guys have in your whole conference.

Season 2 East Won the Championship game... PTT
Season 3 West won the Championship game (forgot who)
Season 4 East won the championship game.. Steel Riders

The only way to tell would be to compare the head to head (east vs. West) from the past 3 seasons.

All I remember is that the Steel Riders had some crazy defense.

If we didn't have the playoffs. We should play 1 versus 1, 2 vesus 2, 3 versus 3 and so on. The side that comes out on top will be considered a better conferance. I am up for playing the 5th team on the other side. Whoever that might be.

Also IMO the eastern conferance bottom teams are worse then the western side. That why eastern conferance teams have slighlty better stats IMO.
