I've got 46 speed on my DT, 47 hurries but only 9 sacks . Does anyone else think it's kind of silly that 20-30 speed QBs can keep themselves separated and prevent the sack so well? I mean they ARE running BACKWARDS, right? Shouldn't there be some speed penalty for that?

Of course I'm going to increase my speed to remedy this, but I just find it silly there is no penalty. IRL the QB usually runs right or left or tries to evade the tackle with a quick move at the last possible second, or even gives up the sack by wrapping up the ball to prevent a fumble when he knows it's coming.

Thoughts?

It's not that they outrun you, it's that they throw the ball before you make it there. 46 Speed is really slow imo anyway.

The problem is that the quarterback is essentially sprinting backward and while doing so able to throw a 50 pass. If he's going to sprint backwards, he needs to stop and turnaround to throw...otherwise the QBs need a slower backpedal speed.

No, they really do outrun you backpedaling for 4-5 yards then throw it.

jumping might help, it will increase your tackling radius

Not enough, trust me.

I have the same problem on my DT. QBs backpedal too fast to be too much of a sack threat.

Actually, I have found that jumping does seem to help...

There are times when it seems that my player breaks his block and is able to get a diving tackle on the QB before he has a chance to react by moving away.

Hard to tell from the sims, but that's what it looks like to me. That is a bit of a corner-case however...the QB needs to be just the right distance away at just the right time....doesn't happen all that often, maybe a few times per season.

If you are breaking blocks fairly quickly, then adding speed will help. Jumping helps make those tackles and sacks from a distance.

If it takes your DT awhile to break blocks, then speed likely will not help, you will need to add agility to help break blocks faster, then adding speed will help.

Despite my DT having 34 sacks, he had 55 hurries, so my plan is to increase my speed since my DT is breaking blocks fast enough for my current speed to get to the QB 34 times. Adding 10-15 speed likely would have given me 50 sacks or so and 30 hurries.

+1

Pass rushing is simple really...

Step 1: Break or avoid the block
Step 2: Get to the QB

It sort of important to get your priorities in the right order...that's where most people go wrong, in my experience

I have speed past the first cap, and jumping is at 35.

no offense but seems excessive with jumping at 35...I think 20 is perfect.
