HEAD AND SHOULDERS ABOVE
1) Tulsa Teamsters (last week #1)
The last unbeaten, Tulsa need only win its last three games to seal up a 16-0 season. However, it's a tough slate. Today they play in a battle of the titans, our **Game of the Week** versus #3 Fremont. Next week, they face off against an improving French Lick team. Their last matchup is against Bowling Green, who are a decent team and the clear #4 in the East.
WHO'S #2?
2) Walla Walla Wackers (last week #3)
Walla Walla moves up on the strength of their win over Island Shaka Brah's last week. They have also beaten Fremont earlier in the year. They should win the remainder of their games easily, and are hoping for a Fremont loss which will effectively guarantee them the #2 seed.
3) Fremont Warriors (last week #2)
Fremont needs to beat Tulsa in the **Game of the Week** or they can pretty much kiss the 2 seed goodbye. If they do pull off the win, they should be relatively in the clear. LaCrosse and the East's Seattle Rainmakers are good teams, but haven't shown themselves to be on the level of Fremont.
HOPING FOR A HOME GAME
4) French Lick Liquors (last week #5)
French Lick Liquors have been ascending as the year progresses, much as some predicted they would. They get a South Georgia team that is good, but shouldn't be too much of a threat to pull off the upset. Hopefully they don't get caught looking forward to a Tulsa game next week which will probably be nationally televised. Either way, they look to be locked into the 5 seed for the playoffs.
5) Island Shaka Brah's (last week #4)
Island Shaka Brah's are virtually guaranteed to finish at 13-3. They've got the Tulsa Doom this week, followed by the Chicago Shockers and a pathetic King Donaldt from the East. They've also got the head to head win over French Lick, and head to head losses against Fremont and Walla Walla, so they're pretty much locked into the 4 seed and a first-round matchup with the Liquors.
HAPPY TO BE IN
6) LaCrosse RiverRats (last week #6)
The RiverRats have won 3 in a row and should make it 4 today, as the Starkville Cows don't typically put up much of a fight. They have a tough closing schedule though, facing the Fremont Warriors and one of the East's best, the Rutgers Silent Willies. They could theoretically finish as low as 10-6, but as they've already beaten both Las Vegas and South Georgia, they should be guaranteed the 6 seed worst case scenario.
7) Las Vegas Villians (last week #7)
Las Vegas locked up this playoff spot when LaCrosse handed the Blitz yet another loss last week, and now they get to do the deed themselves, as they face the Blitz in a couple of hours. After that, the road is smooth: Starkville Cows, and a bad team from the East in the San Francisco Fire Cats. The only thing Vegas is playing for now is the 7 seed or the 8 seed.
8) South Georgia Growl(last week #8)
South Georgia may have felt like it sealed a playoff spot when it beat the Blitz in week 11, but in reality LaCrosse did it for them last week, dealing the Blitz a third straight loss and effectively setting the playoff slate for this year. South Georgia needs to win out to have any hope for the 7 seed, as Las Vegas only has one game they MIGHT lose, and they have the same record plus the head to head over South Georgia. Unfortunately, that's not likely to happen, as they face French Lick this week. Even if they pull off that upset, they face the Washington Caps in week 16, another likely loss. Like I said above...they're happy to be in.
JUST MISS THE CUT
9) Washington Blitz (last week #9)
Washington spent all year putting themselves into position to make the playoffs, and then they blew it with three consecutive losses in the most important time of the year. They get the chance to take out their frustrations on Las Vegas this week.
10) Lone Star Leopards (last week #10)
Lone Star had probably the most difficult opening-half schedule in the West, and are now proving that they're better than their record shows. Unfortunately, they're in far too much of a hole to make the playoffs, but with Smash Mouth, Rhode Island, and a terrible Eastern team, Maribel on the slate, they should finish 6-10 and be ready for a playoff run next year.
REBUILDING TAKES TIME
11) Tulsa Doom (last week #11)
Tulsa's coming off a 28-0 loss to #7 Las Vegas, and now they face off against #5 Island Shaka Brah's. Further, Tulsa's rush defense is their team weakness, and ISB LOVES to run the ball. This could get ugly. Tulsa follows this up with Washington Blitz, where they have a very small chance to win, and the East's Boston Drunks, where they have no chance to win. It doesn't look good, folks.
12) Chicago Shockers (last week #12)
The Shockers have been winning lately, but they are coming up on Walla Walla followed by Island Shaka Brah's. Neither game presents much hope, but on the plus side, they got a great draw for the non-conference opponent, and should easily beat the struggling Michigan Blues.
13) Rhode Island Revolutionaries (last week #13)
Rhode Island should get an easy win this week over a truly hapless team formerly known as the Hobbs Gerbil Wranglers. They follow that up with a winnable game against Lone Star; they won't be favored, but certainly have a shot. Finally, they pulled a decent team out of the east in the Cincinnati Norris Ninjas, which is unfortunate. At any rate, Rhode Island has hope going forward, which is more than we can say for some teams.
14) Starkville Cows(last week #14)
Let's make this simple: the Starkville Cows are done getting wins this season. #6 LaCrosse this week, #7 Las Vegas next week, and a solid East team in the Tampa Bandits. At least they got a few.
HAVE GIVEN UP HOPE
15) Smash Mouth Silverbacks (last week #16)
They won?! The Smash Mouth Silverbacks are thanking their deity of choice that they got Austin late in the year after the gut job. Who would have thought they would win a game? Certainly not I, but they got one. After scoring 3 points all year, they got 42!!!!! last week. They might score against Lone Star this week, but they certainly won't win. Interestingly, they drew a terrible team from the East in the Houston Raiders; this will undoubtedly be the league-wide pillowfight of week 16.
16) The team formerly known as Hobbs Gerbil Wranglers (last week #15)
Null.
