I heard that too much catching will give the QB a larger area to target and their fore making your WR go for more difficult catches.

Also what are the attributes that contribute to route running. Can I make a WR with just a decent amount of speed and make him a very crisp route runner?

Yes it's true that the higher your catching the larger the radius of passes you'll attempt to catch. But isn't that the point of being a WR, attempting to catch the ball no matter how difficult it is.

Speed and agility affect route running.

What about vision, does it help your WR get open?

If I have very high jumping, vision, and decent agility and speed will I get looks?

Agility and speed help you get open, so you should get more looks that way.

Jumping and vision might contribute to the QB's confidence in you, so you might get more looks that way too, but I'm guessing on that.
