So my DT is 16. He's a run stopping DT, not a nose, and ideally I want him to be somewhat able to get after the QB a few times per season. I'm guessing I'll be told to pump STR for a while, but here's the build (without EQ)
Strength: 52.11 Blocking: 13
Speed: 30 Tackling: 31.04
Agility: 50.48 Throwing: 8
Jumping: 8 Catching: 9
Stamina: 30.23 Carrying: 8
Vision: 24.31 Kicking: 8
Confidence: 16.4 Punting: 9

You need to get through the line before you can get to the QB. I would pump strength and agility up to 68 natural while training stamina and speed. This will get boring, but a DT is a very simple player. Once you have 3-capped strength and agility, then you can pump points into speed and maybe stamina. Then you can start polishing your player by training other skills and pumping the SA's. But you want to build a solid base of a player first. This will make the player solid now and even more solid in later seasons. Remember that you are only in your second season with this player. You still have about eight seasons left. You need to consider what you player will look like in those later seasons. The stronger your base, the more you take advantage of the automaticly assigned points each time you level up.

Get agility to 60+ base ASAP (3:1) and maybe even 68 or w/e the 4:1 cap is.

After that either get speed to the 2:1 cap or strength to the 3:1 cap, depending on if you want to see more pass rush production or run stopping effectiveness.

So my stats haven't changed much...but I'm now planning on buying some custom equipment. Points are going into strength, but for a balanced DT, which tree should I go with?

Pass rusher has 3 useful skills (shed swat and base), while run stuffer has only two useful ones (wall and break through), but the run stuffer ones are more relevant to my build. Thoughts?

Why wouldn't you do something that is relevant to your build? Unless you are going to change your build, go with what is relevant. The specail abilities build on the base abilities.

Strong base and shed block fit my build pretty well, and my logic was thinking that if I went pass rusher, I could concentrate more on my run stuffer abilities with points (down the line). I went with run stuffer mainly because I start at DT but I'm also the 3rd nose on my team, but my 75 strength applies to skills in each tree.

Yes, if anyone wants less than 2 tackles a game and a sack every 8 games, invest in strong base and shed block.

A DT can be both an effective run stuffer and a pass rusher.

I spent the first 10 games this season on a gutted team playing all game, in a league where the average level was 10 above me. I was then traded to a team in an even higher leveled team, where I played 1 game. I have a total of 2 points(both in shed when I created him) in those skills at the moment.

This season's stats do not reflect my player very well.

Do you need to do the upgrade to the custom equipment now? I that were my build I would be putting a lot more points into the base attributes before I touch SA's. Having one in an SA doesn't do much. I would finish building my player, then see how I fit in on the team before I decide to buy the SA custom equipment.

I bought FPs for boosting, figured I may as well get CE while I was at it. Went with run stuffer, since it really can't hurt much. And yeah, I don't plan on putting more points into those until strength is at 68 natural (60 currently) and agility is there, too (50something, too lazy to check). I don't plan on the SAs helping much yet, but the 6 points in strength seemed to help me out.
