1(2) - Stockholm Meatball 10-2 – For the first time we have a new no.1 in these rankings with the Meatballs beating the Roughnecks 47-41. The Meatballs did what they did best and that is play power football and run over people. Truly no team in this league is as committed to the running game as the Meatballs and only Berlin Blitzkrieg have a better yards per rush average. In this game the Meatballs ran it 59 times for 291 yards and four touchdowns. They did give up a lot of yards themselves, mostly through the air but Roughneck is the best passing offense in Zeta so they were going to get theirs no matter what. Player of the game: HB Mal Brown, the haters needs to stfu, Brown looks like he has the rushing title sewn up with this performance, gaining 155.5 yards on 22 carries and four touchdowns.
Next week at Korb Destroyers - Stockholm doesn’t have time to relax; Korb wants a shot at the no.1 seed as well.
2 (1)- Rotterdam Roughnecks 10-2 - The Roughnecks played well but they like everyone else haven’t been able to slow the Meatball running game. In a game featuring the best rushing offense vs. the best passing offense, both teams stuck with what they did best. In the end the Roughneck came up just short. Player of the game: QB Corey Smith gave a valiant effort in defeat going 28/49 for 345 yards, four touchdowns and one interception.
Next week vs. Porto Reconquista - Roughneck still have a chance at the no.1 seed if they can take care of business. They will be interested in the results of the Korb/Stockholm game no doubt.
3(5) - Korb Destroyers 10-2 – Now with ten wins and a playoff berth after beating the Aggies 50-17, have completely erased the painful memories of season 4 when they slipped out of the playoffs with a 1-5 stretch to end the regular season. Korb as usual relied on their running game powered by a stable of capable ball carriers, out rushing the Aggies 217.5 to 26.5. Player(s) of the game: Korb OL which is the one constant as the Destroyers rotate in backs to keep them fresh.
Next week vs. Stockholm Meatballs - The no.1 and no.2 rushing offenses collide in this game. What is intriguing is that these are also the no. 2 and no.4 rush defenses in the league.
4(4)- Rivals Mainboard Pimps 9-3 – Moves into the top 4 in the standing by virtue of their 41-6 victory over the Paris Musketeers and a Frankfurt loss. The Pimps are a passing team now? They certainly look like one throwing for 401.5 yards and three touchdowns. The Pimps defense was just as dominate, pretty much completely shutting down the Paris offense. This is also crushed what dim playoff hopes Paris had, better luck next season guys. Player(s) of the game: Pimps DL which had four sacks and four hurries as well as shutting down the running game.
Next week at MA Trolls, - This game seem to matter only in terms of seeding as both teams looks like they are playoff bound. The Trolls needs this game if they want top 4 seed and a home playoff game for their fans.
5(6) - MA Trolls 9-3 – Wins ninth game as expect over Copenhagen. Not a lot to talk about here as the Trolls did what they want when they want. Player of the game: Trolls QB JJ Flicker who was 21/28 for 284 yards and seven touchdowns.
Next week vs. Rivals Mainboard Pimps - Should be a good game here as the Trolls look to make it ten in a row.
6(2) - Frankfurt Heat 9-3 – Not a particular good performance by the Heat offensive unit as it was held to 270 yards of total offense while the Longneck racked up 502.5 yards. The defense had a hard time getting off the field against PPP’s ground control offense but it did get two defensive touchdowns but all it did was make the score more respectable. The loss knocks the Heat to bottom half of the playoff bound team. This could mean a first round matchup with the top 4 teams and the Heat have already lost to 3 out of those 4 with Korb still on the plate. Player of the game: SS CJ Decloud with three tackles, one pass defensed and one fumble returned for a touchdown.
Next week vs. Reykjavik Aggies - Heat should be able to get well against an Aggie team that is all but done.
7(7) - Porto Reconquista 7-5 - Porto have done a nice job of taking care of business now and still holds their playoff chances in their hands. This win over Multiple Scorgasm is big as it now gives Porto the head to head tiebreaker. Porto was able to get big plays out of their passing game to compliment their strong running game. This team seems to be playing well at the right time. That said 10 wins will get you in the playoff for sure, 9 wins might get it done if you have the tiebreakers in your favor so the race isn’t over yet.
Player of the game: WR Ryan Meis with five catches for 160.5 yards and two touchdowns. That’s a very beefy 32.1 yard per catch average.
Next week at Rotterdam Roughnecks - Will the Roughnecks rebound or will Porto stun them just like they did against the Destroyers?
8(8) - PPP Longnecks 6-6 – The Longnecks are still alive after stunning the Frankfurt Heat. This was no fluke as the PPP running game got going and it was a long day for the Frankfurt defense. The Longnecks finally decided it was a good idea to score early and play with a lead which allow s them to lean on their running game to grind out the victory. With that said the road to the playoff is not secured as the Longnecks lost to the Stampede and Multiple Scorgasm so it’s entirely possible for them to just miss the playoffs. Winning out might be the only option. Player of the game: HB Jimmy Slasher who carried 26 times for 109.5 yards and one touchdown.
Next week at Paris Musketeer – in a sense the playoff have already begun for the Longneck as they get a Paris team that is out of the playoff picture but who is good enough to beat the Longnecks if they get sloppy.
Bubble Teams
Rohrheim Stampede 6-6 – got well against Valencia and it’s really a tossup between them and PPP.
Multiple Scorgasm 5-7 – that loss hurts and the prospect of missing the playoffs is very real. Will have to run the table now to have a chance.
Next week at Korb Destroyers - Stockholm doesn’t have time to relax; Korb wants a shot at the no.1 seed as well.
