Well, it looks like we’ve got yet ANOTHER team trying to sneak up into the ranks of title contender! Welcome to the party Roswell.

Here’s how the rest of the season breaks down.

Team of the Week-

Roswell Space Pirates- Two big wins against Vegas and Fresno. At 11-1, RSP has to be the one of the most improved teams in the league. The Pirates have a tough stretch coming up against Tallahassee, Anchorage, and Chicago before going through the motions against Jacksonville from the Eastern Side.

Title Contenders

1. Anchorage Maulers- (0) After squeaking out a close win over San Diego, its been business as usual for the top team in our rankings. Anchorage looks to most likely play Tallahassee in the 2nd round of the play-offs. Who isn’t going to get excited about that game!

2. Tallahassee Teabaggers- (0) Looking excellent after a team wide boost. The Teabaggers should destroy Roswell and cruise control the rest of the way out. What is the most impressive part of the Teabaggers to me? A deep secondary that features 5 CBs at level 27+.

3. RGB Berzerk- (0) A lock to finish number 1 in the league at 15-1. Super impressive result considering they are a step below talent wise from Anchorage and Tallahassee. (Meant in the best way possible) RGB should coast in the first round before possible meeting Chicago in the second round. Looked VERY solid against San Diego.

Could find a way into the conference championship game…

4. Chicago Thunder- (+1) Barely pulled away in a back and forth game against San Diego, but a win is a win. Although the earlier season loss against Fresno looks bad right now, with Fresno’s continued fall, Chicago has a chance at the 4 seed and a home playoff game. Just need to win out and take care of business against a hot Roswell team. Beat the Blaze was easily the most impressive win for them all season.

5. Roswell Space Pirates- (+3) Beating the Blaze earlier in the season was a nice win, but I’m not sure who I would pick in a rematch. If Roswell can pull an upset in the next 3 games, I’ll start drinking the Kool-Aid. Don’t count on it though. 11-5 and a 5th seed is nothing to be disappointed about.

Will make the playoffs, but not much further...

6. San Diego Blaze- (0) Two tough losses before getting trounced by RGB. A bounce here or there and they could be sitting at 9-3, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles. On another note, you should believe how tough it is to rank these teams 4-6. Looks to pretty much have the 6th seed and an opening match against Tallahassee.

7. Fresno Jaguars-(-3) I know they beat Chicago earlier, but after losing to the Blaze and Roswell by 10+ point does anything think they could beat any of the top 6 teams? Should coast from here on out, but a game against Vegas in Week 15 could knock them further down the rankings.

8. Las Vegas Legends (-1) The fall continues for Las Vegas. These guys were as high as number 4 right now, but they keep losing to teams with lesser talent. My only guess is that tactics, build quality, or depth issues are to blame for the surprising losses. The passing game has been pretty soft lately. The Legends really need a win against Fresno in Week 15.

Planning vacations...

9. So.Cal Beach Bums-(0) A couple of blowouts before running all over RAVING with nearly 400 yards passing. A couple right moves in the offseason and they could move up into the playoffs.

10. Philadelphia Demonik- (0) Sitting at 5-7, they should have at least 1 more victory in them against RAVING. Some top quality starters are needed a several key position.

2+ seasons away…

11. Houston Space Cowboys- (0) I can’t see another win from these guys, they have a hellish final stretch. There is some light in the future and they aren’t that far behind So. Cal and Philly.

12. Port Moresby Trucks- (0) Could have a huge jump next year. They’ve got key positions filled, with a couple more starters and some quality depth, I still think this team has the most potential to make a big leap.

Looking for a clue…..

13. Springville Renagades- (0) No new additions in the last couple weeks, not sure what the gameplan is here. Whatever it is, these guys are a LONG way from making a difference.

14. RAVING MAD DAWGS-(0) Looks like they have been busy working. More than enough money to come up with a couple big trades to bolster their roster.

15. Scranton Scoring Midgets- (0) Scranton will probably have the biggest stadium addition next with with nearly 18 million sitting in the bank. Will anyone come to watch them? Doubt it.

16. Phoenix Resurrection- (0) MIA owner, no GM’s, someone is going to pick up a team with a lot of cash and a lot of empty slots.

So there it is… I’m thinking the second half of the season was a good deal more interesting than we were expecting. There are a couple spots for nice upsets, so don’t exclude anything.

The top 8 teams should all be competitive and we should have a nice playoff this year. Next year is setting up to be tough, tough season.

Just my two cents…

-Mike

Nice work Dawgs, love the read

(Demonik replayed So Cal and shut them out 24-0) just for shits sake and bragging rights. We want to be the best of the non-playoff teams lol

Good update as usual Dawgs. Interesting that you have the Thunder as a title contender - do you see them as a good chance against the top 3?

Fixed.

I there are four teams that will play for the title: Chicago, Tallahassee, Anchorage, or RGB.

If everything went right against RGB in a second round game, and I mean everything... we could have a shot at it.

Otherwise it looks like RGB vs. Anchorage/Tallahassee.

Will be truly amazed if Roswell score more than 15 against Tallahassee. Teabaggers D can be judged simply on the LDE/ROT matchup 90% of the time as so much relies on the pressure the LDE brings, and Roswell's power OT is gonna get burned mercilessly by Warren. If Warren gets pressure, Tallahassee play well. If he's stopped they give up points galore. Simple as that.

Because the head to head matchups were all messed up this season. RGB beating us, us beating anchorage, does RGB really have the #1 seed locked up? Take a look at this. http://www.glbwiki.com/index.php?title=Playoff_Seeding_%26_Tiebreakers Assuming we all beat the space pirates (nothing against you guys, great team) We would all be 15-1 and have beaten 1 other 15-1 team so that would drop the tiebreaker down to points scored. Is this right or am I missing something here?

Not sure it matters Hate, RGB got the Dragons in the inter-league. It's a 300 point game if ever I saw one.

Look at 3 of the last 4 teams we play. That's a possible 600 points if we do things right.

None taken. These next 3 games we play are all against top-notch teams, and we're just going to try and be competitive. Looking forward to the match-ups.

I'm not sure I agree with your synopsis on Mr. Slop being the only reason we play good defense. He has helped that out there is no doubt about it, but 4 sacks in a loss to RGB where we gave up 28 points, 14 of which were on 2 fumbled returned for TDs kind of proves you wrong. Also, we have the best defense in the 13. Bar none. The ball don't lie.

I'm using the "league playoff" tab. I assumed all of the playoff spots were updated there after every game and would automatically judge playoff positions.

The reason RGB is in the #1 spot right now is because we are 2-1 against teams that are currently 11-1.
Baggers and Maulers are 1-1 while Roswell is 0-1.
Assuming that the Baggers, Maulers, and RGB win out all 3 teams would be 2-1 and it would then go to points scored.

Current points scored:
Berzerk 874
Maulers 752
Baggers 657

My guess is the Roswell games will not be high scoring affairs.

BTW...another great read Dawgs.

Hate, i'd argue that no team has shut down Mr.Slop this season, not even RGB. I'm basing it on previous seasons as well as this, and watching gametape for odd plays. Your pass coverage is excellent, you get high PDs but the good pass offences can still sneak in say a play every 2 or 3 passes. You also shutdown the gut stuff well for short yards so the difference becomes the offtackle stuff. Where Warren is not held down, he either closes the offtackle gap or gets lose enough to get the tackle outside. You only ever really give up big yards (10+) where Warren has got wrapped up fully, either by double team on the odd play this season (and the LB misses a tackle), or last season when the occassional OT held him down singlehandedly allowing the FB/TE to pick up man on man blocks and the HB got loose.

I'd argue that while he doesn't decide the games, he's the bellweather for your D. You'll only get beat where you lose to good plays regularly (or your O blows it, see RGB game), but when your LDE gets stopped you become beatable. 96? tackles of the 630 of your team has would atest to the value he has to your D.

Oh, and i'd argue RGB has the best D in this league if you follow the stats. They have the higher PPG given up stat but our game and the crazyness skew the stats heavily. Ignoring our game they've given up less than 6 PPG. The defensive TDs against skew their results.

You both have 8TD allowed on D, also tied on FG allowed so i'd give it to RGB on the better sack/INT/PD totals.

while we don't take anything for granted considering our meager roots and the fact we were once one of those teams on the wrong end of those lopsided 94-0 blow outs, it is really nice to see RGB being talked up as a title contender that is the real deal.
