1. What happens if you leave an input option blank?
2. What would an appropriate setting for a long yardage situation be for the "Yards to first down" option? For example would 7/10 or should I leave it as 7/ to specify longer situations?
3. How about the "Score Difference" option? Can this be left blank if I want the input to be generic for any score?

1. It's ignored.

2. Something like 8-100 or 10-100 would be good general long defense yardage brackets for most situations. Just be careful that you dont always call long yardage defenses on 1st & 10.

3. Yes, leave it blank and it will call the tactics based on down and distance.

This looks like a 4-2-5 nickle weak side LB shift to me. Can anybody tell what the other settings might be from looking at the play?

Formation 4-2-5 nickle
Defense Shell ?
Underneath Coverage ?
Coverage Distance ?
LB Shift weak

Thanks in advance.

Shell: cover 1
Underneath: man
Distance: Hard to say for certain. The LB got there before the play had developed. I would wager that it was medium distance, though.

One more question. Hopefully the last.
I think I understand this but I want to be sure. If I set the input option "Ball Spot (yard line)" to any spot and my 20, that would mean the ball can be anywhere but the redzone for this input to work. Right?

I've never tried that. I always specify both yard lines when I create an input.

So, "Opponent GL" to "My 20" for example, would achieve the desired result of triggering that input at all times unless in the red zone.

Though, I don't recommend running the same defense for 80 yards.

And a run focus to move the SS up.

If you are using some specific formation defenses, you can

Thanks. That was a good tip. I can use that in other situations.

Happy to help. The run focus can move the SS up and also move the LBs in a bit. However, if you are playing a shell like a Cover 2, the SS wont move up even with a run focus. He will move up with a Cover 0 or Cover 1 shell.

Probably the best thing is to set up some scrimmages and just try different tactics until you find ones you like.

It can also help to watch pbp of some of the better teams out there to see what they do, steal it and modify it for the talent on your team.
