Well, its that time of the year again. Some teams hopes of playoff contention have been dashed to pieces while others are jockying for home field advantage. I figured I'd toss out my personal power rankings to spice things up a bit(excluding my own team, as usual). Though its only week 9, things are already shaping up for playoff seeding, so you may see a mention or two of that in the mix. Here we go:

1. New Brunswick Scarlet Knights:
Well, here we are again. Joe and the Knights reign supreme. As they regular season rolls on, so do the Knights through every opponent they face. But, as the Gulf State Demons continue to hang in the top slot with them, one has to wonder just how nervous Joe and the Knights are that the Demons will be their bane of season 5. It would seem as though the the curse is setting them up for yet another heart breaker. Us Bucs are pullin for ya, Joe.

2. Gulf State Demons:
How 'bout them Demons? While the 2nd half of their schedule is much more daunting than the first, the Demons have proven to be quite the power house in the East. With a beautiful turn around from last season, they're playing like they mean buisness. A stellar performance so far, but the rough patch is yet to come.

3. Rapid City Rushmores:
Like the Knights, you've got to wonder just how much more the Payton and the Rushmores can handle. A consistent power house in the regular season, yet they can't seem to get passed round 2 come playoff time. As the seasons go on, you know time is taking its toll. Especially this season with the loss of key players like Kaythan Edonidd and the upsetting loss to Sioux Falls. Rapid City will more than likely hold on to that #2 seed, but only time will tell how they fare in the long run. Once again, best of luck to you boys from the Bucs.

4. Salem Cyber Hawks:
This club just never ceases to amaze me. With their only 2 losses being to the top 2 teams in the East, the Hawks are looking more confident than ever. And what a turn around from seasons past when they were nothing more than the whipping boy of the East. Truely an inspiration to gutted/rebuilding teams. I'm fairly confident they will bump on up to that 3rd seed and hold onto it right into the playoffs. Props to the Hawks. Much respect for you guys, best of luck.

5. Anchorage Wolves:
The Wolves. Also known as Caprica's bi... just kidding. Anchorage has worked their way up to the top. Improving season by season, learning from their losses/mistakes and always surprising somebody. This season it was the DVD Talk Otters. By knocking them off, the Wolves prove once again that they can hang with the Western elite. While I'm sure they will be keeping their eye on USMC and the Makos, and barring any upsets, they more than likely have that 3rd seed locked up.

6. DVD Talk Otters:
While they've had kind of a rough start this season, DVD will definately be looking to make some noise as they roll through the second half of their schedule. With their eyes fixed firmly on the last 2 weeks of the regular season, they will look to gain some clout by knocking off Caprica and Gulf State as they fight to hold on to that 4th seed. Surely, this quote taken directly from Caprica HB Awe Day will give them some motivation. "IM GONNA RIP THE JOSH CURTAIN IN HALF BABY! WOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

7-7. Sioux Falls Storm/Scranton Wilkes-Barre Mezingers: These are two very solid teams with a bright future. Sioux falls, with their beast of an Offense, has proven they too can hang with the Western elite when they gave a close scare to DVD and Caprica, followed by the upset in Rapid City. They will look to turn some more heads as they cruise on into the playoffs.

Scranton too has made quite the turn around from last season sitting at 7-1 with their only loss to the Cyber Hawks. They've got a rough road ahead of them though as 3 of their next 4 games are against top 5 teams. They've got some proving to do, but only time will tell how they fare against the big boys in the East.

8. Miami Hammerheads
The Hammerheads continue to be a very solid contender in the East. But going from upsetting New Brunswick last season to getting upset by Houghton this season is quite a head scratcher. Miami will definately be looking to prove that to be nothing more than being caught off guard as they too will take on 3 of the top 5 teams in the East in the 2nd half of their schedule.

9. Uncle Sam's Misguided Children
Curretnly sitting just below Rapid City in the Western Rankings, USMC has had a fairly easy schedule thus far(excluding the obvious). Heading into the final 8 weeks of their schedule they will try to work out some of the kinks and hope to pull off an upset or two and walk into the playoffs with some solid wins under their belt.

Honorable Mention - Sierra Vista Buffalos:
Hate Sighed has done a wonderful job of building this team from the ground up in just half a season so far. He is an active owner who seems to have his head on straight. Much like the Cyber Hawks, I give them a season or two and this club will be a contender in the West.

Agreed! Caprica is a force and an easy #2. A game between Caprica and NBSK would be great, but you might as well make it a scrimmage game because you guys know you're cursed!

Great write up by the way!

6-2 Rapid City is a "A consistent power house in the regular season", while 6-2 DVDTalk "had kind of a rough start this season".

And both DVDTalk losses were very close. We lost to Rapid City by a FG because of a fumble inside of 2 minutes at the 50 yard line. We lost to Anchorage by 1 point on a FG with 10 seconds to go.

Meanwhile, Rapid City lost to you by 2 scores and lost to Sioux Falls by 3 scores.

Sure don't mention the 24 point blowout of Anchorage!

Not really sure what happened there.

My point was that both teams have the same record. DVDTalk lost 2 games by a combined 4 points, while Rapid City lost 2 games by a combined 27 points. Head to head the two teams were only a FG apart (and it wasn't for that fumble, it would have almost certainly gone to OT). To say that DVDTalk struggled while Rapid City is a "consistent power house" doesn't really match up.

All in all, pretty good write up. Always enjoy reading them, although there will typically be a comment or two that someone disagrees about. I kind of agree with Matta there, though we'll see how the 2nd half unfolds...

You're confused Matta. Morphius is a computer nerd, not an espn analyst.

Rapid city is a consistent power house every year (what he was referring to.) And i can only imagine he meant you guys were having a rough start by going 3-2. It wasn't a knock against you guys. It was more of along the lines of "Who would have thought that at the beginning of the season?"
