Eastern Conference Predictions
Last week I went 8-0 on the predictions! In all fairness, it was not that hard. There were not that many close games to call. This week is another story. Some of the top teams are clashing and that means this week will have playoff ramifications. I know, I know, it is still early but remember the tie breaking that went on last year for playoff seeding? It was the difference between millions in home-field playoff revenue and getting nothing and liking it. Let's hope they put in some profit sharing sometime soon. But that is another story. Let's get to the predictions.
Ten Yard Fight! (7-0) at Tampa Bay Krakens (6-1)
The Fight are on some streak this season. They have yet to be beaten and have played the best in the conference. Tampa Bay has only lost to the tough Blaze team in week one, by three points! This has all the makings of a great match-up. The Krakens have a stellar run defense, second only to the Fight. Look for both teams to try and run the ball this game. The team that has success doing so wins this game.
*Prediction Excluded
Buffalo Chips (5-2) at New Jersey Blaze (6-1)
Buffalo comes in to New Jersey after losing two against top teams Ottawa and Philly. Last week they played the Tecmo Once-Were-All-Stars and rightfully blew them out. Both teams have solid defenses, although the Chips give up over a hundred yards on the ground on average. I think these teams match up pretty well. This is a hard choice but I think pretty highly of the Blaze and my instinct says they pull this one out.
Chips 17 - Blaze 28
Ottawa Outbreak (6-1) at Philadelphia Pigeons (6-1)
This has to be the game of the week. Both teams sit near the top of the Conference and the Power Rankings. There is a reason for this. They don't lose. Both teams have no real weaknesses on their starting roster and their team chemistry is at or near 100%. Ottawa has a better pass defense and have only allowed five passing touchdowns all season. Philadelphia has allowed 12 touchdowns and about 50 more passing yards. Alex Striker to Johny Blaze has been the top scoring tandem this year and if the Outbreak can slow that I believe they can take this one.
Outbreak 35 - Pigeons 31
FC Hezbollah (2-5) at Atlanta SEC All Stars (5-2)
Atlanta gets another easy team to beat up on. Last week they destroyed SSC and look to pad their stats again this week against FC Hezbollah. Nothing to see here folks, guerrilla warfare apparently only works on the battlefield. There will be no football IEDs for FCH to plant in an unsuspecting goat. No 16 year old women to strap with a touchdown vest and send to Allah. You get the picture.
FCH 10 - SEC 45
Bonita Beef Supreme (3-4) at Saint Paul Vulcans (4-3)
Look out everyone, someone is climbing the Power Rankings! After a great showing against undefeated 10-Yard, the Vulcans are proving that they deserve a top spot amongst the playoff hopefuls. Don't get me wrong. I like the Beef Supreme. They are in pretty much every game they play. They have fought hard and come out on the short side to the top teams in the conference. I just don't think they are quite "there" yet.
Supreme 24 - Vulcans 35
New Jersey Hitmen (2-5) at Seward City Cats (0-7)
Hitmen have guns. Big ones. The Seward City Cats are not the kind of cats you see pictured in their avatar. They are the kind that circle my feet and meow every time I go into the kitchen. We all know who wins this. It's not even close. Sorry SSC, you gotta take this crap for a season or so before you will win any games. Adversity builds character, at least that is what my psychiatrist tells me.
Hitmen 97 - Cats 9
New Orleans Night Trippers (1-6) at Tecmo All-Stars (1-6)
I can tell you one thing about this game. Both teams have a bad record. NO has a better team assembled, unless the CPU players suddenly enter the starting roles on the All-Stars this one shouldn't be close. The Night Trippers are closer to the bubble than I thought before. Another season of solid leadership and they should be there.
Trippers 24 - Tecmo 6
Texas Wrecking Crew (1-6) at Sheffield Sabres (1-6)
Ahh the Wrecking Crew. Not sure why they lose so much. I think someone needs to take a long look at their AI and play calling. They have some solid players all over their roster. No way they should be 1-6. Sheffield on the other hand, they have a lot of wholes to fill. This is another battle at the bottom but I dont think this one is hard to call at all. At least it shouldnt be. If Texas calls a decent game they should be able to take this one.
Crew 21 - Sabres 9
Best of luck to everyone in this week's games.
Thanks,
Chris
