Is there any reason not to play Cover 1/2 man and to blitz anyone who does not have a receiver responsibility?

Logic:

1)Cover 1/2 are usually safe.
2)Zone underneath sucks
3)Double Coverage does nothing in terms of breaking up passes, so may as well pressure the QB/attack the run

Other than just changing the looks around to make it harder to scout, is there any reason to do any more than this?

As long as you leave LBs to cover the dump passes to the backs, you should be okay to blitz anybody else. Otherwise, expect to see those HBs running free.

The other issue is that the various cover schemes (alright, the cover 2) have holes that can be exploited if you don't double up on the TE occasionally.

I'd question number 3. Doubling triggers someone on Medium aggression to go for the INT. You'll see a lot more picks if they try to throw to a doubled guy.

That would be helpful if I could choose who I double. As it is now, I worthlessly double a TE most of the time.

I appreciate everyone's input this far. Those are some good points.

I don't think Zone underneath sucks. I think it has uses covering the short slant routes.

You have to become very familiar with what every position's zone responsibilities are, because it's extremely easy to leave holes (I probably still have them; keep looking to see if someone exploits something).

well you can make the f.s come up to the line and double the wide receiver 2 pretty easily. and if you have a shut down corner on the number 1 receiver you completely shut down their one and two.

Underneath zone coverage has some uses though. a lot of plays out of the I can either be run or pass, and its good to use zone there.

Why? I haven't seen the zone be good for much other than taking my LBs out of position for running plays.

My guys' builds are nowhere near where I want them, so maybe I'll just wait and see.
