After reading all the different ideas here on how to build a successful LB I'm wondering if I should do something like 3 points - speed
1 point - Agility
1 point - Vision
...while intensively training Confidence and Jumping or just soft cap speed and then start pumping points into Agility an Vision. Any feedback would be appreciated.

i'd train speed and agility for as long as possible and try to get speed to 60, agility soft capped, then do other stuff..that's just me tho.

My only issue is that I think my LB will be ineffective during the next 12 levels while I'm soft-capping (as per the how not to screw up your LB thread). I'm hoping to have a decent player in the present while also building towards the future.

That's only one year in the D-League (if you boost). If you get on a human team just make sure it's a good owner (although probably on a losing/rebuilding team) who will get you 35-40 snaps a game.

I'm more into the 'dump all 5 skill points into this attribute, then dump the next 5 in another.' type of spending. Sometimes you get some incremental feedback from your linebackers play in the sim from dropping your next 10 points into a stat and taking a critical look at the plays.

Again I found much success in getting swarms of LBs to 52/40/35 early on. I don't much believe in soft-capping LBs quickly because the incremental difference in LB level ups is just miniscule. I'd rather have a fun LB the whole time.

I'm of the opposite school. To be honest, you LB from level 1 to level 13 will not be that good, no matter how hard you try. So you may as well softcap a couple of stats as fast as possible to benefit more from the points on level ups.

Granted, Rod knows his stuff too, so he may be smarter than me. I doubt it, but anything can be possible...

Thank you for all feedback given. I'm going to start making a plan for the next 40 or so points.

If you do go on a rebuilding/losing team, you'll probably get 50+ plays easily.

My LB will be hitting level 8 soon. Where should I place the CE points? I was thinking 4 into speed and 2 into agility. As for the SA's I was considering going with the Pass-blocking tree because of the Swat ball and Shed block (hopefully that will make up a bit of my low strength).

I think it's a wash either way. Big sack and D-Gen are both fairly useless. Putting the CE into the run tree can save you from having to put any other points in there imo, and if you happen to get stuck at MLB for some reason, hey at least you have a point in D gen. Eventually you'll want to train shed/swat to 3 or 4 so having a free point there won't help any. It's certainly not necessary to have a point in diving tackle in order to make diving tackles. 4/2 speed/agi is fine, I'd have one of my other pieces giving agility if you were gonna take speed up to 61 because I don't like a big spd/agi gap.
