Alright, here's the deal.

I just created and boosted a QB yesterday --- |V|atthew Stafford. I'm planning on maxing Field General ASAP with him to see how it affects his stats. I'm thinking it'll be reasonably noticable, because it makes the entire team look better than they really are, and QBs are only as good as the team around them.

Field General will be up to 9 at level 8, at which point I'll buy Custom Equipment, pushing FG up to 10. At that point, I'll get him to sign onto a capped team as a backup.

After maxing FG, I'll softcap Confidence. I know it's a little wacky, but Confidence has more of an affect over FG than any other QB stat, so a build revolving around FG should also revolve around Confidence.

Once CON is softcapped, I'll start working on Throwing and Vision.

I'll post his build here and keep things updated with his games and stats. Hopefully this experiment works out and becomes a facet.

Level 4
Strength: 12.2 Blocking: 9
Speed: 10.6 Tackling: 8
Agility: 10.6 Throwing: 14.2
Jumping: 10.6 Catching: 10.6
Stamina: 15.2 Carrying: 10.6
Vision: 14.2 Kicking: 10
Confidence: 18.2 Punting: 8
Pocket Passer
1-2-3-5-5
Scrambler
0-0-0-0-0

How long do you plan on carrying this experiment out? Seems like it gonna take quite a few seasons before you see any results, but keep me posted, im interested in seeing how this works out

I'm also interested but I wouldn't worry about the Confidence. Bort's said that unless the SA description specifically mentions an attribute, there's no correlation.

Really? If that's the case, then I'll get Vision up first.

Yup, it was a month or so ago so I won't be able to find it, but Boy Scouts honor.

Well my field general is at 1 (2 with CE), and I have a better QB rating. So who the hell knows whats up. I'd be very interested in seeing what a FG focused QB could do.

I noticed my WRs dropping wide open bombs with no one around them even though they have high catching so the only solution I can think of is to get field general higher (only 3 right now).

Your QB is level 33. I'm fairly sure that it will have a much more noticeable affect at level 8. And besides, your QBs stats aren't bad or anything, just average.

Bort is working on that, it's a known issue. Field General isn't likely to impact it nearly as much as Bort's fix will.

I pretty much view Field General as something you work on after you have a very good higher level QB, it could be the final piece in making an elite QB. I think the benefit of raising it very high early on (or even in the middle of your career if your primary stats aren't yet all where they need to be) isn't likely to compensate for what you give up by not spending those points on things that could have made your QB better every play.

Think about it, to get Field General to say 6 (7 with custom equipment) you are spending 4 points on 3 levels of Turn Shoulder and then buying 6 levels of Field general which starts out costing 2 points. Do you think a small to moderate confidence + stamina boost on SOME plays is going to be worth giving up 20+ skill points that could significantly increase your throwing/vision/confidence/strength or whatever on EVERY play? If your answer is no, then consider the trade off could be worse because as your QB doesn't perform as well as he could have, he can cost your offense morale and thus negates part of the bonus your players are getting from Field General. On the other hand a very good QB, even without Field General, is going to boost player morale by making plays and helping your team score more points and win more games.

However, once your main stats are high enough that you can't buy a lot of stats points with those 20 skill points you probably could see more benefit from putting them in Field General. It will make your whole team a little better instead of getting an almost imperceptible improvement to your QB by spending 3 or 4 or even more skill points just to get 1 stat point.

Plus, it's at the end of the tree for a reason and that reason probably isn't because Bort thought QBs should work on it early on.

It's an experiment. I already have 2 QBs, a level 22 with a base 50 Throwing, Vision, Strength, and Confidence and a level 18 who I'm about to retire. I know what the cookie cutter build is for QBs. I'm trying to see if something different might work.

Wouldn't upping Pocket Passer and Tight Spiral help you out more?

I have an experiment I would like to make next. The demoralize SA says that the defense takes a morale hit every time the QB runs the ball. So if you do the same experiment with Demoralize instead of FG, and then get a team thats willing to run the QB every time, by the end of the game the Defense will have 0 morale. If the QB is a decent runner he might have good numbers by the end of the game.

Doesn't it say it lowers their morale on big plays? Pretty sure that's it. BTW I have a rushing QB in the works with my wife and so far it's doing well in passing on a slowbuilding team severly underleveled still. Pleading with Bort to add 1 or 2 more QB runs.
