With where you're at right now, I would first buff up your agility to at least 20, and as you grow your player, aim to keep agility at least 50% (and more ideally, closer to 75%) of whatever your speed is. Vision and Tackling need to be pretty consistently high also. Use nightly training to mostly work on secondary skills like strength, stamina, and jumping. Also a little confidence from time to time.

Which is a sure way to fail. The way you get lasting effectiveness is GLB is by smartly utilize your early SP to maximize their effect for the entire length of your players career. This means that you need to cap your primary attributes as fast as possible, so you can receive the greatest benefit from natural level ups, equipment, etc.

Since your speed is already the highest skill you have, work on getting it to the 48 cap... Train agility and/or vision or stamina while you're doing so. Once speed is softcapped, move onto agility or vision. Train whichever one you aren't using SP on. Then once one of those are softcapped, move onto the next one. Your tackling is fine for a while, so don't worry about that. Try and train stamina, strength, and confidence when you can. Once Speed, agility, and vision are softcapped... Feel free to sprinkle some points in secondary stats that are still low and a few SA. Then start trying to second cap one of your "main" attributes. This should bring you all the way to the mid 20's.

It's a matter of perspective, much like slow building. Are you willing to have your player suck for a few seasons, so that he is (fractionally) better than others late in his career? Or would you rather be competitive all along, and recognize that by the time you are lvl 50 you'll be fractionally behind some other players?

To each his own.

A few seasons? Typically 2 at most.
From level 1-13, you should have soft capped 2 of your important attributes.
Meanwhile, you can train your other stats to a adequate point.

Lastly, for the most part, people will be in the Dleagues when they create their players.

Note that the D=Development.

Oh well. To each his own.

Well, it's better to get to him quickly, and take him down even quicker!

There's no point in training strength when that power HB keeps getting 5+YPC before reaching you.
With high speed/agility/tackling, you can easily reach him in less time.

Oh shut up. Seriously, all I've seen you do is give out terrible advice on this forum. For most positions, by making sure you get your main stats up ASAP, you'll suck for one season--the season you spend in the D-leagues. However, by that time, you should be around level 14 or so (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) and will probably have two skills softcapped (one of which will be a good chunk into the softcap because of natural level ups) and you should be a good bit into your third. Assuming you did a decent job with your training... You should be a fairly well-rounded, albiet flawed, player headed into your second year. You probably won't be amazing, but you won't hurt a team. However, by the end of that second season... You really begin to round into shape, and by your third season... You should be an unquestioned starter, and a difference maker for your team. If you go a little more extreme with your building philosophy, you may not begin to blossom until midway through your third year, but it'll happen nonetheless.

Discount the benefits, if you want, but you're being completely ignorant. The amount of SP you save by maxing out main stats asap is significant, and it's a gap you'll never be able to close.

I'm still pretty much a noob at this, but from researching and asking questions, it seems to me that most people recommend soft capping speed, vision, and agility in that order. That means putting most of your SP into one of those three attributes, and then training the others... and also training a little stamina, tackling, and confidence. That's the path I'm taking on my guy anyway... if I'm wrong on that I'm sure a vet can correct me.

That's essentially it.

But, just to clarify, you need to soft cap tackling as well.

It does really make safteys, especially SS, very hard to make. You need great speed, vision, agility, tackling as well as pretty high strength and jumping. And of course you can't ignore stamina and confidence. So many stats, so little time.
