I've been playing with a few options to tighten up aspects of our defense ahead of some key games and going through our last game I found a few odd calls.

This one for example:

What's going on with the two OLB? There is only one 3-4 defense that can be called there according to my gameplan and it's Cover 1 with man underneath. No SS blitz so I guess he's man on the FB? The OLB are acting like they're splitting the pitch into deep thirds with the FS when they should be choosing a player. I just don't understand what that play is meant to be, or how it got called.

Do you have Zone defense called? The outside backers in 3-4 Zone underneath coverage will go out wing style and cover WRs.

My guess is 3-4 Zone with ILBs blitzing

It looks like they were doubling the WRs.

Man coverage, no zone set up there according to my playbook, looked like zone to me too.

Does you Basic AI call for zone? Might have a drop-through situation going on.

Good point, 100% man underneath set there though.

Any idea on what the SS is doing? Am I right in thinking he's covering the FB?

LBers seem to drop back unless they blitz. I think this was done pre-season 4 to open up the running game more. Kinda fubars the 3-4.

The SS is covering the TE. He takes a step towards the TE, then reads run and beelines the HB, which leads him inside to get sealed off by the TE.

I don't understand what the OLB's are doing.

If the SS is covering the TE, it is not a zone.

Zone doesn't cover what the defensive backs are doing in GLB.

That should be fixed, then. What kind of zone can you run if the CBs are in man all the time? Also, why do CBs have any option on how to play zone? This is a completely effed up version of football.
