I'm debating if speed is really that important to a possession TE. I'm playing with a build for my experimental TE.

At lvl 7 I've just capped catching and now I want to cap jumping and work on agi/vision/confidence/strength. I was planning on leaving my speed at about 20-25. The idea is to build a guy who will catch almost every ball thrown his way, regardless of coverage (since most LBs don't care about jumping).

Has anyone already tried this? If so, how did it work and do you have any advice?

Edit: haven't spent any SPs on anything but catching:

Strength: 17 Blocking: 16
Speed: 14.84 Tackling: 11.02
Agility: 14.01 Throwing: 8
Jumping: 13.27 Catching: 48
Stamina: 16.02 Carrying: 11.02
Vision: 16 Kicking: 8
Confidence: 11.02 Punting: 9

No SAs. 11 SPs to spend, I'll probably hold onto them until I have enough to cap something. No equipment yet, I'm deciding where to put them still. I'm thinking all strength since 60+ in catching or jumping is probably overkill (right?).

In my opinion - 60+ in catching and jumping is overkill. 60+ in agility is not. And high vision is also very important. Just remember - to get the ball in the first place, you'll have to get open - and there are a lot of LB's out there with very high speed who will be trying to stop that from happening.

Hmmmm, I also have a LB and he certainly doesn't ignore jumping! It is the most under-appreciated ability in GLB. You have a solid plan going - stop the catch now, it'll grow on it's own. Cap jumping next and start to work on vision/stamina/confidence.
Equipment should ALL go on catching. You'll need to keep strength and blocking even and agility/speed at 3/2 ratio. Good luck, I've got a level 11 tight end that I'm building as a catching machine and it's working so far.

Sometimes I think it's most important just to soft cap two or three abilities, regardless of what they are, to get a productive player. I have seen a RB gain ton of yardage with soft capped confidence and vision - and little speed or agility!
