After clawing their way up the ladder for two seasons, the Gotham City Punishers not only got a taste of success, they enjoyed a considerable feast of it.

The Season 4 Gotham City Punishers amassed an impressive 17-3 record, including playoffs, as they are promoted from the USA BBB #6 to the USA A #3.

The Punishers kicked off their season with an 8 game winning streak against competitive teams like the Minnesota Lumberjacks and Mile High Mustangs, a team they would meet again later that year in the playoffs. The team skidded in the middle of the season with two straight losses at Seattle and a heartbreaker when they hosted the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns, a game Louisiana won by a single field goal in the late 4th quarter.

Fleet of Foot QB Rico Dynamite has been with the team since their organization, and has played enough games with the team to recognize when their confidence was damaged. After an easy win hosting Portland, Rico Dyanmite led the team into Coruscant to face off with their rival team the Death Stars. After falling 17-3 early in the fouth quarter, Rico Dynamite hooked up with big playmaker Dan Miller for a 56 yard touchdown that swung the momentum convincingly into Gotham City's favor. With less than 2 minutes in the quarter, Dynamite again connected with a wide receiver for a touchdown, this time on a short pass in the redzone. Coruscant was unable to put up points before the clock expired, and the game went into overtime.

After winning the coin toss to start overtime, the Punishers rlected to receive. Their 5th quarter ethos was to pound the ball down Coruscant's throat and to kick a game-winning field goal. In the end, on a 4th and 2 play from the Coruscant 16, Kicker Awesome knocked in the final score of the game, and the Coruscant Storm Troopers had to prevent the Gotham fans from rushing the field in their stunning victory over a team that had reigned over the BBB #6 West for three seasons.

The momentum from their win at Coruscant carried them to an overall 6 game winning streak to end the regular season. After the seedings were decided, the Punishers prepped the Abusement Park to host the Mile High Mustangs, a solid team they had defeated in the regular season by 13 points. This was a statement game for the Punishers, who quashed any opposition in a 80-0 win over a fellow playoff team. Looking to the next game, the Punishers hosted Coruscant, but this time it wasn't close. With a high-powered passing attack, the Punishers cruised easily past their rival by a 43-24 score.

Next on their playoff hitlist is the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns, a team they've had consistent trouble with in their history. Fourth quarter comebacks seem to be what the Punishers relish, as they found themselves down by a score of 13-7 with barely 12 minutes to play. On a drive featuring wideouts Fred Smith and Andy Baily, the Punishers knocked in a 3 yard TD run by Baby Carrot with just over 6 minutes to play. The Cajuns responded with their own long drive that was capped with a 40 yard field goal by Mike Joey, putting the Cajuns up 16-14 with under two minutes to play.

After a Mike Skrilla kickoff touchback, Rico Dynamite threw two incompletions, and the Punishers were staring at a 3rd and 10 from their own 20 yard line. In a freakish turn of events, Rico Dynamite passed to the left, and it seemed the game was over when Dweezil "The Weasel" Jackson deflected the ball, but Brandon Lafell, the target of the two previous passes, grabbed the ball, and earned a first down. Dweezil Jackson earned three deflections in that drive alone, but it wasn't enough to stop Rico Dynamite, who moved the ball into Cajun territory on a 9 yard throw to Baby Carrot. The Punishers finally gave a sigh of relief after Rico connected with Dan Miller for twenty yards, putting Gotham City well into field goal territory. A few plays later from the 17 yard line, Kicker Awesome knocked in the eventual game winner with 19 seconds left.

The Cajuns eventually got the ball back with 8 seconds left on their own 36, and after a pass to James Howlett and a timeout, the Cajuns had 2 seconds and 54 yards to get into the BBB #6 championship. The ball was snapped and Brett Asleigh took a 5 yard dropback, but then he saw Fartie McBumflaper crash through the line, and before he could turn and run, he was dropped, and the game ended, 17-16 Punishers.

Gotham City had never gotten farther than the first round of the playoffs until season 4, and now they stared at the Championship game in their own stadium against the North Carolina Nudists, a team they had never faced until now.

For the most part, Gotham City fell due to a lacking defense and a mostly dormant offense, whose few bright spots consisted of Andy Bailey, whose two touchdowns came on two long bombs with a total of 140 yards on those plays. The effort proved to be far short of what they needed, however, as Gotham fell 48-21 to the Nudists.

The effort earned them a promotion to the USA A#3, however, where the Punishers will get the chance to face up against the Sacramento South Side Psychos, former USA BBB #6 West champion, who had slided from championship form to a 6th seed team. They'll also get a chance to face off against the Minnesota Skulls, the USA BBB#5 Western Conference champion and BBB#5 League champs.

As they move up in the ranks, it will be interesting to see if the Gotham City Punishers can keep up their excellent ways of winning, as they hope for a rematch against the Nudists in the USA A#3 championship.

Great article. One point though. Relegated means to go down not up. You should chagne it to promotion. Unless you are implying that A#3 is a lesser league. Then you could leave it the same.

It'll be a lesser league without Dweezil and Fred Nubski

Fixed.

Good article. I will say...we noticed Andy in the pre-game scouting. We couldn't believe the #3 WR was that successful. After watching him torch our DBs for two long catches....yeah...he's a talent.

We look forward to a rematch, as well.

The Nudes' season was an interesting one, as well. After a couple of late-season losses...there was no way I'd have expected to win more than 1 game in the playoffs. With the help of some friendlies, and some defensive assistance, we managed to get things worked out.

We beat some powerhouse teams--while we had a general lack of depth. We were decidedly worried about Cleveland. We knew they have the depth--and we had seen our defense get worn down in previous games. After beating them, we realized we were good enough...maybe we could win it all.

We figured out what works...and we've kind of created a bit of a juggernaut offense...at least until someone figures out how to stop it.

I really think the good teams in BBB6 are going to march straight to the top, and we're going to be in the pros together at some point.

DWeezil has to move back to Eastern Europe. His original team were relaxing on a pleasure craft on the Black Sea when a freak storm capsized the boat and many of the players went missing, presumed drowned. Clay graciously allowed Dweezil and one of his teammates to return to Eastern Europe to help an ailing franchise.
