The conference room was packed in Sander's home town of San Francisco. Press from all over the country were patiently awaiting the news of where "Save Me" was going to land next.
The last few days going up to the offseason for Sanders had been tumultuous. Hundreds of teams trying to get him to sign and help their franchise get past that next step to a championship. There were even rumors of a drunken commitment to one team, that had to be backed out of the next day. Either way the time was now.
Darren calmly walked out to the podium and scanned the room. Behind him were seven different number 18 jerseys, one from each of the top teams that he was considering. As he stopped at the podium and adjusted the mic, he saw some of his old Portland teammates. Sanders flashed his trademark smile, before finally addressing the media.
"So... what are you all doing here today?"
Everyone in the room went quiet, seemingly puzzled.
"Okay, so humor is lost on you guys. Back to business. I was a Portland Outlaw for a little over 3 seasons. I had wins, I had stats, I had losses, I even had a failed guarantee. I had everything there. Everything but a playoff birth. Unfortunately that was never able to come about. Great guys, great city, great organization. In my mind I will always be an Outlaw. But those times for me are over. Its time to join a new franchise."
Hands rose all over the room, Darren simply shook his head.
"Now I've had promises of championships, money, and playing time from nearly all those scrub teams that have contacted me. But I was able to narrow the potential teams to the ones whose jerseys you see here. One from Sin City, the Red Dots, UFA, the Minsk Ninjas, Maracaibo Stingrays, and last but not least the London Angels."
Sanders paused, quickly smiled, before continuing.
"All these teams are going to be great next season, and I wish them all the luck. But I can only choose one, so now Im going to shut up and show you where Im going next year."
Laughter rolled through the room, before going quiet as "Save Me" moved towards the jerseys. He looked over all the jerseys before slowly moving to the UFA jersey. About to take it off its hook he looked over his shoulder and shook his head, mouthing the words "No way". Silently chuckling, he went to the other end and picked another jersey before holding it up.
